Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I went today for my quarterly visit, and was told a few new things that were good to know.

First of all, PEPSE, which is Post exposure prophylaxis after sexual exposure to HIV, drugs that MAY prevent transmission of HIV if a condom breaks during sex.

Secondly, my local clinic now offer women anal swabs. I declined as I am not an active anal fan, but might be worth asking for if you are. Obviously men should already be getting them if they're a fan.

Add to that the free prescriptions I get for my constant BV, the free latex-free condoms, and the giggle we had over the flavoured condoms, and it was a morning well spent!

Support your local GUM clinic.

Our local GUM clinic is doing something right. It's well worth going for a check-up and then there's the fun part - sorting through the goodies they have available.

They were really good to me even when I (male) turned up with an injured penis from overuse. They counselled that it was simply mechanical injury and rest would let everything recover, but it was still so reassuring getting the expert's double-check.

etc.

They were really good when they identified that we are "swingers" - which didn't take many seconds of questions...

So we agree - support your local GUM clinic

I know the nurses by name in my clinic and last time I got 30 latex free condoms as well as extra large and normal. They've always offered anal swabs and once a year check my Hep antibodies are still ok. We also have a good laugh and I've tried several differnt flavoured lube courtesy of them

The clinic in Newcastle is great, go there for all my contraception, smear tests etc too. Although the last time I was there, the fire alarm went off and we were all lined up outside looking shifty in front of 3 fire trucks full of firemen....

Funnily enough, all the female nurses and doctors are great with me being a swinger, but the male doctor looked at me as if I was weird. Perhaps he was checking he didn't recognise me from the site.

I went today, still can't bring myself to tell her why I have had more than one partner in the last three months. I think she presumes I'm off on the pull every Saturday night round town!

Luckily not had time to meet much recently so she has only ever used the 3 boxes for sexual partners rather than go on to another sheet

If you tell them you're a swinger you don't have to do that, they just ask for an approximate figure since your last visit. I remember after one particularly active few months she stated asking me the '3 boxes' questions and I just looked at her and laughed.

The only problem is I don't think they put it on my record so I have to keep telling them.

Its on my GUM record that im a swinger. It does tickle them if ive been to a recent greedy girls night and reel off 6-8 different guys in one night.

The staff at my clinic are quite supportive and knowledgeable of any STIs going round any particular location. Always offer anal and oral swabs as well as the norm.

Wish more people would go for check ups. Its a great service and gives huge peace of mind x

The clinic in Rugby is good too. New clean and welcoming, the staff are friendly and the service is quick.

I now keep a diary of my activity as it was getting embarrasing admitting I was unsure who I slept with. Last time I went they remarked that I had slowed down a lot.

Freebies are good but I love the reassurance of knowledge of my health

Never had the anal swab so thanks for the info on that guys! Don't do it every time by any means but still worth getting it checked! I don't get as many freebies as some of you seeem to - but the staff at preston are great and still dole out a few free condoms - including Chriatmas ones in December! xx

I asked my dr receptionist for the phone number of my local GUM clinic, I phoned it and the dozy tart had given me the number of the helpline for the housing office. All I bloody wanted was to know their opening days and times. gp receptionist cant even get that right!! I was seeing nurse today, and told her, she was gobsmacked slightly, and I still never got the number

Crikey. No GUM clinic here just a different doctor's surgery. They don't keep records or even ask my name. The form just gets a reference number and my mobile number for them to text the results.

They all keep records on file on the system but they don't get sent to your GP, the hospital GUM clinics have there own database and info is not shared with other departments unless ofcourse you have HIV or Hepatitis B/C and that is for staff safety when handling bloods and bodily fluids etc.

Liverpool has a fantastic sexual health service and I don't know why more people! I often speak go guys who say 'I'm clean I always play safe but I haven't been tested for 2 years ' its crazy! Just go!!!

We have the new attitudes sexual health clinics, it's great as it does everything there so no one knows your there for the gum. You sign your self in at the screen so you don't need to disclose to receptionist. The nurses are excellent I had a lovely talk with my lady one and we were even discussing my job as she wanted to change hers. Anal swabs are offered if required and throat swabs are done routinely and you do your own vaginal swab.

As for the men it was a simple urine test followed by throat swab

And we both had blood tests

As for the condoms we need latex free so they are more stingy about those but give us lots of lube sachets

We get our monthly certs regularly and know the doctors and nurses on a first name basis,

Because we get written certs we have to show our passports when examined and the number is taken.

They do this so you cant get tested for someone else, when we pick up our cert/letters we again have to show photo id and the passport number taken again.

The industry want to set up a data base where a personal code can be checked to see if the person tested clear before any shoot etc, it all seems a bit technical but you hardly ever hear of many in the industry having std outbreaks.

Thanks OP very informative

Our local clinic are brilliant.

When we made the choice to swing we also decided to get regularly tested

Nurses & Sexual health workers are super helpful, informative, professional, Non judgemental and always good banter to break the ice when you're new attendee's

Free Condoms etc & peace of mind just for a fairly quick visit

Also been commended many times for taking our own (and the people we play with) sexual health seriously.

We requested at our 1st visit to only have records with the GUM & not passed to our Docs

If you have any doubts, worries or embarrassment please rest assured that you won't be judged in the slightest

That's our experience anyway

How daft is that! I get regular blood tests to check hormone levels, that is all they have been asked to check so why would they check for things they haven't been asked to look for?

I'm quite happy to get checked out, they're a great laugh where I go. The walk in is a bit awkward (hover over the seats, arms in, touch nothing/noone, but that may just be the snob in me!), but they have later appointments so work doesn't get in the way so I just do them. They are very understanding and accommodating, didn't get funny when I was uncomfortable with the offer of a male Dr to speed up the wait. They are just out to do the best to help.

I really don't understand people who don't go, it's your health for crying out loud!

The Ipswich GUM clinic we used to go to was great, very friendly & chatty, nothing was any trouble but the Great Yarmouth clinic is awful, they even keep the men & women in separate waiting areas & the Doctor was shocked when I said I was a swinger, this was just after we had been to a club so then I really enjoyed telling her how many sexual partners I had had lol was really going for the shock value, she even said down bellow rather than saying vagina, not looking forward to our next visit.

The only problem we have is we use fake names so there is no chance of it getting back to doctors and thus life insurance (aka "Ever had an HIV test"). Whereas the answer is yes, but only as part of a proactive screen!

The problem is when they phone up and as it is "number withheld" I say "Hello, Fred speaking" and they say "oh, is that Mark" lol! Every time!

Never a problem, but great proactive Hep-A and Hep-B vaccines and check antibodies good - saved us a fortune in holiday jabs

Made us smile the other day when we went together for a regular checkup, same appointment time, different waiting areas. Although there's no written rule at our clinic to say you have to sit in sex specific areas though, (people do) just specific clinics through the doors.

Number of women waiting in women's area - 2 (including me)

Number of men waiting in men's area 14 - (including M)

By the time that M was called the numbers had levelled up a bit.

The staff are always nice and friendly, we find being honest with them what we do helps, it's our health after all.

I always assumed that anal swabs were standard. I always get a questionnaire about who I've had sex with, their gender and exactly what activities we did - then they swab accordingly.

Sunderland

I was really nervous when I told my practice nurse I was a swinger but I needn't have been she started off my hep b injections course. She recommend that I attend my local GUM clinic which I did. They did all swabs, anal, throat and cervix they did the bloods and gave me condoms. Next visit mid January. They are really friendly but did find that the nurses were interested in what happens in a club.

Unfortunately, my local GUM clinic is horrible! Honestly, I'm ashamed of the things that they say...

"Don't go with bi men - they have all kinds of diseases" - "Don't go with African men - most of them have hepatitis." - generally disrespectful to everyone and I hate going there!

So I usually pop into a very friendly clinic up in Lancashire, whenever I stay with a friend up there - such a complete difference in approach and they're quite happy to see me, even though I'm out of their area...

I was chatting to a guy on here and I mentioned that I frequently attend the clinic and his response was "dirty girl".

"The clinic in Newcastle is great, go there for all my contraception, smear tests etc too. Although the last time I was there, the fire alarm went off and we were all lined up outside looking shifty in front of 3 fire trucks full of firemen.... "

Hahaha that's hilarious, I would have made a make shift name badge and pretended to be staff!

I had to go to get my shoulder checked so whilst at the hosp popped in for my mot haha!

Had my smear done.. Apparently i have a lovely healthy cervix etc always nice to hear when a lady has her head between your legs!

Been advised to stop using femfresh gel as she said lots of women are getting BV from it so off to get some simple shower gel!

Bonus gave me loads of latex free condoms to try and instead of sachets of lube i got two full bottles

You're best off using nothing but water, especially if you're prone to allergies and sensitivity.

We get our monthly certs regularly and know the doctors and nurses on a first name basis,

Because we get written certs we have to show our passports when examined and the number is taken.

They do this so you cant get tested for someone else, when we pick up our cert/letters we again have to show photo id and the passport number taken again.

The industry want to set up a data base where a personal code can be checked to see if the person tested clear before any shoot etc, it all seems a bit technical but you hardly ever hear of many in the industry having std outbreaks."

And this is why two of the guys i've met are porn stars! You just don't get safer!! xx

Gonna try this simple wash and see how I am with that, at the moment not had anything from femfresh but better to discontinue the use now

On one of my visits I was also told to stop using femfresh, they recommended aqueous cream instead as I can't use soap down there and although it seemed alittle odd when it was first suggested I wouldn't use anything else now. I feel clean and it isn't having any unwanted side effects like the continued use of femfresh would!

Thanks for the tip on aqueous cream. I washed with it after all my babies were born while i was healing. I will wash with this before meets in future and afterwards. Got a bout of BV at the moment. Ive been prescribed Metronidazole but went and get some balance active gel to use as well in case I get thrush from the bloody antibiotics! X

I use either just water or very plain soap or cleanser from Lush.

I suffer so many less problems than when I used to coat myself in nasty, smelly products. (And who the fuck thought that vaginas needed to smell like anything other than vaginas... yet another advertising plot to make women feel insecure about their bodies.)

This is the correct & sensible thing to do if you are meeting every weekend with various people, a lot can happen in 3 months.

We are not all perfect in porn but most do try to do things as safe as they can, the Pro adult industry isn't that big so if people in porn are doing bareback with others not certed no one would touch them with a barge pole.

If me or Kim do bareback in films we ask the other people we work with for 3 consecutive monthly certs otherwise its condoms only.

If I was meeting every week I would certainly go more often. Unfortunately, I'm not.

My clinic only recommends this to women if they play with bi men - we discussed it at my last check-up a couple of weeks ago. This is because it's a series of vaccinations - not just one injection. Xx

Who's to say you don't play with bi guys? As half the guys I see from FabSwingers have "straight" on their profile. Don't rely on other people protecting you, get the Hep B vaccination's done.

I love my local clinic and tend to go at least every 2 months. I get a full MOT. Throat, anal and vaginal swabs, blood tests and I'm up to date with my Hep B injections.

They love hearing my experiences in swingers clubs, I'm very open with them. Just wish that more people would go. Always told "we use condoms, so don't need to go." Just how naive is that?

Big tubs of the stuff in most supermarkets for a couple of pounds and I always have one in the shower and one in the bathroom. Would be lost without it now!

Anyone can have an Hep B and to say you only need these if you interact with bi men is bad, they need retraining and you need a new GUM clinic that knows whats what.

Hows does tell us to avoud African, South American and Russian (+ some eastern European countries) people unless they have been in the UK a while and have had multiple tests first, these countries are rife with HIV so caution is warned for good reason.

The next day really? Ours takes a week or two. Someone said they had their results after 2 days and I didn't believe them. So it's possible?

Its possible to have same day or on the spot tests but the UK & USA porn industry dont trust this method, some GUM clinics get your tests back in a few days but the majority take a week.

Most GUM clinics are excellent (the only exception being the one in high Wycombe, as they pretty much "were sure I'd have something" by merely asking how often I had sex! Even before they had taken any samples! Ridiculous!)

Easy friendly chat, straight forward questions, necessary samples to "check for everything" and results back (usually by text) within 7-14 days (depending the clinic I've used over the years).

Love mine - I get loads of condoms every 3 months: I have more condoms than I know what to do with, takes some doing!

my local was hopeless. it was on the gyni ward of a local hospital so I was the only man there. so embarrassing as I stood out like a sore thumb. the doctor was about 80 and she nearly choked when I said I'd had sexual relations with a bloke in the questionnaire. I had to phone up 2 weeks later to check on my results as they didn't txt me to say all clear. think a trip to the go would be better next time.

Be thankful GUM clinics are funded by our struggling NHS, and free of charge (albeit paid for through National Insurance, which is a pittance).

So when smokers, of which I am not, drinkers, and druggies, of which I am not either, and not forgetting the 'obese'(I am over weight) are judged by their lifestyle, remember our good old NHS supports the weak human being.

Pay more national insurance is what I say. And for those who object, be thankful for the NHS, because all the demands upon 'this' service and 'that' service cannot be supported much longer.

There should be more clinics , with longer opening hours . I have to travel a great distance ( 100 mile round trip )to mine and wait 2 weeks on results . They are lovely and friendly though . Free condoms and free advice . Felt really comfortable yesterday , the 2 nurses that dealt with me this time had me in kinks . Joan Armatrading we on the hospital radio an the nurse taking my blood told me she loved her singing , she wants to go see her singing live at our local opera house soon because she lost her virginity to her music . But her husband is working . I told her to go alone and enjoy the memories . Last thing I expected to hear we a nurse divulging the loss of her virginity . So it's not all doom n gloom . They are human too .

I have a 50 mile round trip to mine. I suppose I could go to the local doctors but getting an appointment there is harder than a single guy getting his first meet. I tend to arrange an appointment after work, go for a bite to eat afterwards and then nip to the 24 hour Tesco to stock up on the stuff not available in Arse End

"I went today for my quarterly visit, and was told a few new things that were good to know.

I must enquire about the free latex free condoms. When I go for my routine check up
