Yeah, I've had that but, like you say, the site is full of fakes and messers, simple as that.

Have you considered that it may be something that you said which has put them off?

It happens!

When I was single and meeting I would often get chatting with guys who I was interested in and then something they said made me think no, not for me

Mate, it happens - you're not alone. Had something similar happen to me not so long ago.

Not sure if it was the fact that I actually lived quite close that scared them off or what. But that's the way it goes.

All I did was mention that I recognised the location of one of the outdoor pics that they'd put up, and that was the last I heard from them. LOL!

I just let it go. I don't chase and I really can't be bothered to figure out the why and wherefores.

This. Its awful when it happens but it saves me finding out they're not for me face to face.

One point which seems obvious but which often doesn't get mentioned in threads such as this is that you may have been chatting to one member of a couple and then either they discuss the situation and decide not to take it any further ; or the second person decides to end it.

The converse of this is that it would be helpful if people would let you know which one you are talking to.

Sometimes it isn't you. I have been happily chatting to a couple and them disappear and occasionally come back weeks later saying that one of them freaked out or something happened in their lives that meant they stopped swinging for a bit. Has happened to us too..all heading for a meet but then real life gets in way.

What also could have happened is you got into an in depth sexual conversation, they had a wank and moved onto someone else for fresh material. I found people soon lose interest when I don't go into details as to what I want to do with them.
