I've noticed a trend, particularly on facebook, usually from some of my younger relatives in their early to mud twenties, who were educated when Labour were in government, who seem to not know the correct use of words.
For example.
The old There, their and they're mistakes
His instead of he's and vice versa
Are instead of our
Your instead of you'll (example 'your be fine')
Makes me wonder seriously about the state if education in this country.
I'm often tempted to correct them but resist in case I get accused of being the 'Grammar police' |

"This is a swingers site, so the word 'cock' is frequently used....I received two messages recently with it spelt 'cok'!! I mean, what it the point in saving one 'c'?? "
Perhaps it was a very small cock |

All of the above and I have to hold myself back from being the grammar and spelling police. Autocorrect annoys me as it won't learn the words horny or pussy however often I type them. And that's a lot! |

Remind me again...who was in power when the grammar schools closed? |

So their parents have no responsibility in making sure they can read and spell? Let's blame schools and governments instead. |

I have to say I'm probably one of the ones that use words wrong occasionally. But that's only cos I can't always spell the words I need and I'm normally typing in a rush. However there is a time and place for the first message being "hi how are you fancy meeting" aaaaarrrrrrgggghhhh |

I'm one of these "early to mud twenties" you speak of
I have to say I hate any messages written completely in text speak and grammar is a major issue to me. Although I do make the odd allowance for auto correct as I think we are all victims of that from time to time lol |

hate any mention of 'smashing', 'destroying' or 'ruining' me...usually comes from some guy of 20 who looks about 6 stone soaking wet!
re:spelling, around the same time the tories stole our milk, we began to be taught english phonetically....unfortunately this is not a phonetic language......i actually got told off at work for putting 'weird full stop things' in my written records as they 'broke up the sentence so it didn't make sense'....they meant my ;! |

i know, pedantic, but it just gets to me"

There's a theme I don't like - when you are contacted and the message puts other down to try and put themselves on the moral high ground.
Example (from a dating site) "You must get lots of messages, most of them rude and crude, unlike from me". |
