I think it's ok, autonomy is your human right.

Of course those with less choices might feel they have to sell themselves when they don't want to- just to survive, and then the job centre might force you to apply for jobs in that field or cut your benefits. These are the shit options right here.

The only time i think it's wrong is when a 3rd party is involved and taking money off the women, so long as the women, or man, is doing it off their own back and keeping the money themselves what business is it of anybody else

It's one way to get cash fast if you need it! I did it a long while ago for a week and earned my weekly wage for each half hour client, of which there were five.

For the record: I did not use this site for that purpose.

I didn't like their attitude towards me though, so I'm back in the office, working two legal, boring jobs again.

It paid the rent when we needed it to. I'd never do it again.

I never felt I was doing anything wrong. Is no worse than doing their cleaning tbh. Soliciting is illegal, as is running a brothel, but there's nothing to stop any woman going round to the punters' houses for an hour or so by prior arrangement.

Was listening to a programme on radio 4 some time ago and a prostitute was on there explaining that nearly all are forced into it from an early age and are trapped in a very violent and seedy world where most don't have control over their lives. Made very difficult listening indeed.

Someone would always be looking to exploit you in some way and my guess is that you would need to spend most of the time looking over your shoulder (figuratively not literally). Am sure there must be some who are happy and successful but would guess they are in minority.

no prostitute is forced into sex, a prostitute is someone who willingly sells their body for sex someone who is forced to have sex for others financial gain is a victim of abuse and what is now called modern day slavery, the two should not be confused

I dont see the point of paying for sex either. Its degrading for me and degrading for a woman to sell her body. There are plenty of degnifying trades and skills out there for earning a living. and there plenty of women out there who r looking for a honest male partner to share more than just their body with. We all have our opinions and that's find but surely what is degrading is a personal thing, for example some people would never let others piss on them as they would find that degrading while others love it, surely you can't speak for every prostitute when you say it's degrading? Depends from what scale and angle you look at things. For the minorities its an individual personal choice. From a larger scale and how the society perceives it, its degrading and immoral.

You'll find many on fab for example who get turned on by being pissed on, or by being called names or by being beatten, or even pood on. Some even get turned by eating a warm poo lol. Its all about being degraded and I understand that there are ppl who finds this a turn om and that it is a personal choice. Does that make it OK? No. If the basis of whats ok and whats not is the personal choice, no society or civilisation will stand the caotic anarchy and degradation that will result from this false moral. The collective standards of morals are more sustainable and healthier for the whole society. If an individual is turned on by fucking a goat and scientifically its proven that goat have had an orgasm out of it and therefore opened its legs willingly, it doesnt make it ok just because both have consent to the action.

Prostitution is by all norms, in all societies, in all religions and all conventional morals a degrading immoral epidemy. My opinion.

I've worked with lots of women who've been 'prostitutes'....they've all had heroin addictions. They're forced into prostitution, and all the risks that come with that, by their addiction. Let's not kid ourselves that most women who sell sex are making a choice that circumstances haven't driven them into. Plus, what does it say about a society where men think they can buy sex from women? That all we women need is to be offered cash to open our legs (ref. an earlier post)?

If we disregard prostitutes who are working for a pimp or to feed a habit in what way is it degrading or destructive as both of these have little option in their lifestyles.

No one forces a prostitute to go with a particular client (male or female) it is their choice.

Much of vanilla society look on swingers in the same way as they regard prostitutes, but I cannot imagine anyone here thinking that swinging is degrading or destructive.

One could argue that the whole dating game is a type of prostitution unless the couple go dutch on everything.

I have seen first hand the dark side of this and stories that would really make your skin crawl from woman .. Who had no place to go .. And if they never made the money for the pimps would get beaten up and all sorts done to them ...... In a more equal society - equal numbers of women in top paid or leadership roles, same number of male prostitutes as female prostitutes then I would support it. Currently, I think it is just another symptom of gender inequality.

Until it is legal, they basically have no rights. If it were legalized, as it is abroad, they would have the ability to more easily bring criminal charges and file lawsuits against Men who abused them or didn't pay or anything. Why is the current "establishment" relation to prostitution (sex in return for money) deprecating / illegal, in contrast to the general feeling in the population that selling sex in return for money is no particularly special thing and certainly overall beneficial in a society for it to exist?

How is the legal framework at odds with the prevailing reality and sentiments of society as a whole?

- is it right that most people take the view that prostitution is inherently a non-issue and part of the overall tapestry of human society?

- is it right that it is inherently effortless for a woman to sell sex for money and there is no problem with that (probably beneficial effects - women have responsibilities and men often have money through not choosing to take on responsibilities (and that in itself is a lifestyle choice) - the "trade" serves all parties well)

Then my own view (male) - the laws and projected deprecation of the act of a woman selling sex for money are "little boys laws".

The same "overgrown little boys" which has a government launching "minimum alcohol pricing" when the economy is not doing so well and an election is in sight, going into silly wars when everyone is doing the "broken record" saying "don't do it, don't do it, ...", proclaiming vehemently on continued criminalisation of narcotics whenever anyone points out the clear-as-daylight obviousness that maintenance prescription to those in trouble and general legalisation would solve many overall problems and avert many personal tragedies, etc, etc.

It is a myth that the majority of sex workers make a lot of money. Only a small proportion will "live well". There is a high prevalence of people from broken/abusive homes with substance misuse problems. There are a lot of brothel owners and pimps who make a lot of money from this profession. I am not being moralistic, just failing to turn a blind eye to justify something. How many will genuinely say they would encourage their daughters, mothers, sisters etc to become prostitutes because they will "live well"?

I'm going to say something now that goes against everything I have already said

as i have already said I work in sex clubs, I have a good job but I have two daughters in their 20 both at uni and since Cameron got in and stopped the capping of university fees uni places do not come cheap, I get no financial support from their dad and I also have a 13 year old to provide for, so I work in the club to top up my money to pay for their fees and provide them enough money so as not to get themselves into debt with uni loans,

Prostitution and escorting are theoretically the same thing - it's just that most people would prefer to be known as an escort rather than a prostitute, or have seen an escort rather than a prostitute. Being an escort isn't illegal, however soliciting sex is. As an escort you are paid by a consenting adult for your time. What happens in that time is between the two of you. You do not have to have sex, nor is it 'selling your body'.

There's nothing wrong with being a escort. I personally dislike the word prostitute as it comes with a negative mental image of women standing on street corners. Escorting sounds more high class.

If you want to be an escort, go for it. The money is good, and as long as you are comfortable doing it and you're safe about it then it's not really a bad thing. Make sure somebody always knows where you are, and you always have a means of escape. Avoid drinking with the client unless you have opened the bottle yourself. Make sure you take condoms with you. Go with your gut. If something doesn't feel right, don't do it! Say no. Don't feel that because the client has booked you that you need to follow through with the booking if you feel as though something isn't right.
