we usually send a wink when we see a profile we like, its not because we are lazy, its purely due to the fact that over 5 years we have sent hundreds of mails that have never been replied to,loads think its wrong, lots think its lazy ,what do you think ? |

People have different views on winks, what works for one doesnt for another. If someone sends me a wink it gets ignored, in fact i never ever look at my winks just delete them when theres a few there. But i do have it on my profile not to send me one so its there own fault |

We always look at our winks, check out their profile and, if they are what we are looking for, message them saying 'thank you for the wink, how are you' or similar. That way if they were just admiring the profile or if they are interested in meeting they can let us know x |

If its in someones profile that they ignore winks we dont send one its good that some make it known how they prefer to be contacted |

Thats how we feel about winks,we find it a good way for us to show our interest |

"We don't mind getting winks and will wink ourselves! I agree that it's a good way of showing interest that can be reciprocated - or not! Z"
So we arent the only ones who use winks then lol |

Its probably the way your wink theory is being combatted and gives people a initial line in a message ,happy days lol |

We mixed, we get winks answers them and get nothing back, just like the op.
So i answer winks for firsters normally.
But for people we have exchanged messages then get no messages. ( normally when they asked for a meet) we go not asnwer the winks or one lines. But will answer them if they put abit of time into the message.
Well hope that ready ok.

love winks, if someone doesn't fancy us they can just ignore it instead of having to send us a "thanks but no thanks" mail which most people don't like sending.
The same in reverse we would rather initial contact was a wink so that we can wink back or ignore it.
We hate it when people wink, we like them and wink back and that's the last you ever hear from them - more for the timewaster category |

If people wink and you wink back surely its a heads up all round and a introductory message is the next step but then as you say timewasters ,the scurge of all our lives lol |

if someone winked at me on the street it would depend on two things, if i liked him, i'd be flattered, if i didnt, i'd be looking away
its pretty much the same on here...lots of folk complain about them and say they're lazy...but i bet they wouldnt delete one from someone that they thought "oh hell yes" about.
wink away
i never check mine btw...i keep forgetting about them! |

Disagree with you as I think they are lazy, so it doesn't matter how "phwoar" a person maybe I would never know or care as I delete without looking at them. |

We don't have a problem with woinks and treatthem as a cheeky smile across a room. If we like the winker we will wink back or send a message and see what happens after that. If we don't lke them we don't do anything other than delete it.

never thought of them as cheeky smiles but works for us,sending winks seems like the quickest way to grab someones attention |

just so you get some balance in the wink debate... I am one of thos people who don't particularly like winks at all... just because they don't actually tell me anything,
I like something written personally, with a bit of personality it in, something that brings out you...... if you are wanting to meet, tell me why? I don't think that is much to ask....
all a wink tells me is that managed to hit the button.... |

Here is what a wink says to me, a female in a couple:
"I can't be arsed sending you a message, have a look at my profile and if you like it, message me. Yes, I know, I can't be arsed, but I'll expect you to make the effort, cheers".
*nice* |

We send winks too, we find it a very easy way to say we like the look of somebody.
And are always flattered to get them too, although this doesnt happen very often, perhaps we mingers lol
Happy winking we say xx |

winks are fun, exactly the same as smiling at someone you're attracted to, across a room. and if its reciprocated, by getting one back, or a short message back, then ... go for it. flirting inititiated, rapport established. michael |

I personally dont use them at all. I just tend to delete them.
I like to see what effort is made from the person/s mailing me to see if I would be interested in them.
So have they read my profile and written something good and have they included a face pic.
I am not sure if it is on my profile that I am not interested in winks, but will check and make sure it is on.
In actual fact a guy that I met up with last week actually winked at me about 6 months ago but I just ignored it.Well actually I only just noticed about 3 months ago that people were winking at me and I wasnt noticing them.
I guess a wink is equal to a smile in a club or similar. So can certainly see the appeal.
But as a single fem with pics and verfications and bi, I do get generally a decent amount of mail and someone that makes the effort to mail me and read profile..... will get a responce more than someone who just winks at me and requires me to make the effort for the initial mail.
God it sounds so up myself thats terrible.
Trying to explain that when so many in the water the strongest swimmer will win the race. |

one thing that is standing out is that the single female prefers mail instead of winks

A wink is just a lazy way of saying hello.
Take the effort, say hello, what is the worse that will happen, your message will be deleted. You know where you stand, move on. |

We do not mind winks, we think of them as a "hi, feel free to have a look" and treat them as sutch.
If we like the couple who have winked us, we will often wink back to show that we are likewise intrested, and then wait for them to respond with a message.
If we do not like the profile, then like others have said, it is easier to decline than a real message.
The down side to winks is that we often forget about them, and so a lot of people think we have not liked them, when in reality we have not even seen them. |
