went 2 hospital 2day 4 appointment ,,,returned 2 my flat only 2 find workmen helping them selfs 2 tea n coffee ,without permission ,,reported this invasion 2 my landlady who thort I was being over dramatic ,,,n hoped I wouldn't mind as the weather was not vry gud ,,,,,,police could ony ask them 2 leave as they had spare set of keys ,so technically not broke in,,,,,,,yes lookin 4 alternative accommodation ,,,need advice on wot other steps I can take ,,locks have been changed ,,only I have keys ,,,

yes ,,,stupid idiot she is ,,,,they was supposed 2 b working on fire escape ,so they used my flat as thourough fare ,,,feet on coffee table ,,

I've been the workman had to service a boiler in a flat got the keys of the landlord but the landlord never told the tenant . Big bloke the tenant nearly killed me when he came home to find me in his flat

It's the law for your landlord to let you know. It may be their property but as the occupant you have rights. I see a discount I'm your rent ahead

However as you've changed the locks you're also legally obliged to provide a new set of keys to your landlord.

Otherwise you may find yourself on the wrong side of a door being forced open/kicked in !!

Yeah, you're not actually allowed to do this. The landlady does has right of access to her property. But by law she also has to give you notice of a visit.

Change the locks back before you get evicted for breach of contract, but point out to her that she's in breach also.

Assuming you have one!

Landlord should give you 24hrs notice. Mine did something similar last week buy the workmen were in the garden not the house.

Its still theft by the actual workman to help themselves to your drinks. Iguess if it was emergency work and landlord knew you were in hospital he could be excused for allowing the work to go ahead, especially if he could not get in touch. I think id let it ho but say its not to happen again.

I was under the impression that unless it was something urgent not only was notice required but that the day and time should be mutually agreeable? I work long hours and would not be happy with workmen traipsing all over my home without me being present. I have valuables and personal items there and I am entitled to "quiet enjoyment" I think the phrase is

That's is disgraceful from the landlord, and I certainly would not let it go. Find put if the landlord is a member of some trade association and seek advice from them - if anything, it alerts them of the dodgy actions of the landlord. Some notice is required, but at the very least, if it was urgent work, the workmen should have been accompanied or supervised by the landlord. Giving them free access is unacceptable.

As others have said, change on the locks back because you are not allowed to do this, then if you do have a contract, scrutinise it to see if there has been a breach.

wasn't a emergency they was measuring 4 carpets n estimating 4 paintwork on fire escape landing ,,,im going 2 c council officer 2 c wot my legal route is ,,,not a happy bunny ,,,, she quite gud at makin sure her rents in on time ,,wont hold my breath at getting anything back from her tho ,,
