Hereford

The part where I put the book down, stopped feeling annoyed that such badly written tripe was so popular and went and had sex with an actual person.

Lots of people enjoyed it and they have posted about it recently. I haven't read the books but they certainly spawned a lot of spin off merchandise so must have been very popular and enjoyed by many.

The most exciting part was when I stopped reading it and went and did something else.

After I'd battled through half of it (like wading through treacle) I came to the conclusion that most people who thought it in the slightest bit erotic must have really crap sex lives. Now, where's me stab vest.......

Same here. To be honest I skipped through the sex bits as they became tedious and boring... There is only so many different ways you can describe a blowjob, spanking sex etc

I did the same. I can't not finish a book /series even if not enjoying. Sure the writing was a bit pants and the scenes weren't shocking at all for those of a certain open mindedness and lifestyle but we're not the majority and I imagine it was an eye opener for many who read it. It certainly caused a spike in the number of 'doms' around the sites lol

truly dreadful books got 140 pages in and had enough of the bullshit view of a sub/dom relationship.

Shropshire/Midlands

I found the first 6/7 chapters quite bad before it appear to pick up a bit, but then, I was in Germany for a week and managed to finish reading it since I'm not very fluent in German, except watching them do well in the World Cup.

And also; this. If you think they have anything to do with D/s, you are mistaken.

It sounds like it needed to have a lot more about group sex.like 3sums 4sums gangbangs & orgies after all thats what makes swinging so fun

Its not even good porn, and fairly mild BDSM at that.

But 50 Shades have nothing to do with swinging.

It's subjective. I've read tons of trashy novels by ladies like jude devereaux, bertrice small, johanna lindsey, etc. And the sex scenes hold up. I also think that people who went for the series from an 'experienced in that lifestyle' mindset missed something in the books: yeah, he's a Dom and at first he's looking for her to sub but it is essentially a romance novel. It's not a bdsm story, it's a mainstream romance novel with what, to the majority of the population, is a 'kinky' or 'taboo' twist. No single book in history has been unanimously liked by everyone who read it. This wasn't meant to be an in depth look at bdsm, or a how to guide, yet many seem to treat it as such when condemning it.
