Have you tried tramadol for the pain? There are also other options. Are the lidoderm patches available in the uk yet for pain relief? Those work very well for sciatica. If it worries you then have your gp refer you to a pain management consultant for a review. I think your gp really is limiting you more than may be needed as there are plenty of pain meds available without codeine. Also, have you tried the tens machine route? For some that works very well. I have sciatic pain often due to arthritis in my lumbar spine. It's a bitch. |

Sorry to hear about your problem - sciatic pain is a b*tch. Zed suffered from it and was given exercises to do by a chiropractor (a lot of curling up in the foetal position to stretch the nerve etc)

Why has your doctor given you an anti-epileptic drug for pain?
You need to inform him/her of the side effects you're experiencing as your symptoms are not currently listed and any unusual ones are reportable.

Gabapentin does have some off label uses too, and pain management is fairly common place. Ultimately you seem to have had very severe side effects, unless you were only slightly larger. No prescriber would know of this side effect unless informed but it is so seriously severe that I would expect you to be referred to another specialist. Your side effects would likely be the most severe in the Uk, and I am astonished that you are still prescribed this med. How many consultants have you seen? |
