Alternative to slim is fat .... there's loads here
Alternative to tatooed is no tats ...... there's loads here
Alternative to pierced is not pierced ...... there's loads of them too, so still not sure what an "alt" woman is  |

I've never heard of alt girls having to be slim? Some people would class me as alternative and I'm a size 12 and 14-16 in dresses (even Alternative dresses) coz of my boobs. Some of my friends who are very alternative are much more curvier than me. |

Nowhere! The lady of this couple is a size 18/20 and DEFINITELY fits the alternative bill. There is nothing saying alternative is skinny. We go to a lot of the Alt Events that Heresy and Heelz put on and you'll find that the average alt girl out there in the real world, rather than interweb porn land, is defintiely curvy!  |

Size has bugger all to do with it . Alternative to mainstream is the main criteria. It's a mindset first, dress sense second!

I think it's fair to say tgat the suicide girl look does focus on slim. And also that there is a very stereotypical alt look of tattoos, stretched lobes, piercing that is pretty shallow.
To me alternative is very much a mindset. It has fuck all to do with tattoos, piercings and clothes and everything to do with attitude and outlook. |

As soon as most people on here see you have long hair, tats and listen to metal they run a mile.

I have been called alternative by others. Although I don't have any tats or piercings I do have a different way of dressing and my hair is short and shaved on one side. Used to go to a lot of metal and Screamo gigs but just as much into other genre's I'm not sure what makes you alternative I prefer to be classed as an individual.

Actually. That skinny comment, i can relate to. A lot that i've seen and actually even met who i would consider 'alternative' have actually been quite skinny and covered in tattoos and piercings.
So, i get where you're coming from. Not saying only skinny people can be 'alternative' but i understand that 'generalisation' if you want to call it that.

I knew a lot of people on the straight edge scene in the early 90s and it was very much a lifestyle. But I aagree with you about just what iscan alt lifestyle. Like my earlier post said a faceful of piercings and tattoos is not alternative and mosr definitely not a lifestyle |
