Friend requests

So from the sender's point of view why would you send someone a friend request having had no contact at all prior to this? I'm really interested why you would want to be friends with someone in that situation. Is it just to access private friends only pic albums or is it like Pokemon card collecting? Just accumulation!

My main reason for asking is that I don't have a private friends only album which I had assumed would be the main reason, pic collectors etc and am now perplexed as they still keep on coming?

I don't get why you would send a friend request with no previous contact either.

You add friends not for friend only pictures but also to easily find someone you may want to contact at a later date

Ok, so why do I get on average twenty friend requests a day? Most unaccompanied by a prior message or chat in the chat room?

I agree. I find it quite odd that people friend request without even attempting to chat first. Even then I'm reluctant unless we've been chatting a while. I think it is just people hoping to get a peeknat your friends only photos. However if you have none then they may just be very shy? Answers on a postcard......

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I've got it on my profile that I won't add random friend requests and yet they keep on coming. Although I suspect that's got plenty to do with the fact that people still don't read profiles. Oh well, its no effort to ignore them

The thing is that this site has a lot of features and people will use them in varying ways which might not always be the way you would use them yourself.

They derive no benefits from being a friend, so is weird and as a post doctoral student at Sydney university......I'm interested?

Some people derive a certain sense of well being from having hundreds of friends even if they have never met them and there's a good chance that a percentage of them are not who they claim to be.

Facebook is to blame.

Good luck with your thesis don't forget to credit me

I think some men see it as a quick of verification by adding friends on to their profile.. Its just a roundabout way of beating the system.. Just saying

I don't assume that lots of friends means they're genuine in fact thinking about it I take to mean that they're less serious about it because they just randomly throw out friends requests.

isn't it something to do with sending you a message, if they are on your friends list it cancels out the message filters.... so they can message and wink you

Whilst I've been reading this thread, 2 random friends requests have appeared, no message though a wink from each and one is over 2 hrs from me.

Maybe I should go ask them why they've not sent me a message lol
