I don't really know but it's been around for absolutely years (~10).
Apparently some data was being analysed so everyone got paranoid and thus spawned the infamous and absolutely non legal disclaimer people love to have on their profiles.
Something like that anyway. Never been much of a story teller. |

But weird subjects are chosen now for PhDs and seeing often see it on profiles thought down that line.
Also lots of hackers originate from uni IT departments and also artificial intelligence departments and could be harvesting data. Plus as seems fan is a great site they could have been cloning the site to create own fan experience in Sydney or as an experimental simulation kinda thing.
The other thought is do admin of fab post on forum? Because perhaps admin noticed a peek in traffic from Sydney university and this cause concern maybe web master noticed huge traffic flow between them and Sydney... who knows am just guessing.
Just thought someone might be admin and know for sure.
Thanks anyway folks |

I can assure you this was a hoax in 2002, I have been working on the NET since 1994 and seen everything come and go.
The story is too long to explain but it is 100% a con and people are still following other like sheep and putting this rubbish on their profile and they dont even know why, it unbelievable sometimes...
and even though they dont undertstand it the recommend that other people put it on their profile ha ha
Get a life guys its just a con, you dont need it and Admin have mentioned it once in the forum to remove it

lol sheep people copying and pasting something they think is legal but has no basis in law what so ever.
This is a public domain and anything in the public domain is open to be used by anyone else for what ever.

It is utter crap. Anyway when you set up a profile online, you have to tick to say you agree with the rules so any crap about your privacy that you add later is totally null and void. There will always be idiots out there who believe anything written online. |

Read the FAQ. Admin states that it is complete waste of space and time putting that in your profile. |

It is all bollocks. You cannot change your legal rights by simply telling someone something. If someone has a right to copy something, they can copy it even if you tell them that they cannot. Simply put, you would be lying. |

Read the FAQ. Admin states that it is complete waste of space and time putting that in your profile."
From FAQ:
We've noticed a legal disclaimer paragraph that some people have on their profiles. Should we have one too? What are they about? Do they do any good?
The "legal disclaimer" is pointless nonsense and all does is take up extra space on our servers. Please remove it if you have it on your profile. If you're worried about privacy please set your account to be hidden from non-registered users on your privacy page (this also hides it from search engines but may take a week or two to drop out of search) and remove the notice (and encourage others to do likewise).
Common sense advice would be NOT to put any information on your profile (here, or on any such site) that could identify you or that you don't want to become public! So for your own benefit, don't post phone numbers, real names or email / instant message addresses on your profile that people might see or "Google".
Some people may put non-identifying pics on their public profile but keep face pics private or for friends, for example. |
