This isn't a physics thread it's just a straw poll really.
When I've put a few pounds on (like I have at the moment but don't tell anyone) I feel less like swinging. By no means am I a big Un I just let my beer belly creep back over the winter due to lack of miles on my pushbike.
Is it just me that feels like this x |

when I put on a few pounds (ok a couple of stone at the moment!) I don't feel like me, and I don't feel very happy with myself, but it certainly doesn't put me off swinging or meeting people......really must do something about that couple of extra stone!!! |

this is me (rhi) atm, I gave up smoking 5 months ago and the extra pounds have slowly crept on and I don't feel confident in how I look there for I don't really feel like swinging.
I've not put on a huge amount of weight but enough to make a difference to me.
we are though going to a club tomorrow, first time in months, so we'll see how it goes! |

I think when things change about ourselves we have a period of adjustment - do we accept it or change it?
With body weight, it's typical for their to be some winter alteration, as many do less, and often we'll lose it come the summer. Otherwise, a new 'normal' weight is achieved, and we stabilise, including our appreciation of it. It becomes something we're accustomed to, we don't notice it much, and that initial determined drive to definitely shift it, will often be altered to a faint whisper, 'it would be nice to change it...' etc.
Our inner thoughts depend on how much we see ourselves in control of our self esteem etc, our locus of control over stuff. If you feel not in control, wrong shape, wrong for swinging, public displays or some other perceptions that discourage you, then it may put you off swinging. Otherwise, there are many out there who have the self confidence to do whatever they want, come what may.
I like people being comfortable with themselves, physically and mentally, it's refreshing and attractive. |
