Amyle nitrate, popular before Aids in the early 80's especially in gay clubs, until their connection with Aids was discovered in USA.
You sniff the liquid, it affects your blood flow to brain and heart, causing side effects, light headedness, and sometimes sexual arousal.
Great for dancing, and spacing out.
Used in the medical profession as a heart stimulant.

Please do not consider using this with viagra etc, as together it can cause blood pressure failure. Otherwise, it is not the same stuff used decades ago, which was for health treatment. Lots of different opinions, and not a drug or addictive chemical etc. |

They are not sold as sexual stimulants because they are illigal. Another type of legal high.
If folk are ill or die then so what serves them right drug use is damaging so many folk its pathetic.
When i read in papers and hear someone has died from drugs and cops try to charge those who supllied the bad batch or purer stuff it makes me laugh the user is at fault. Do not take do not die its that simple.
Its like the young lad recently that died taking ectstasy tablet. Very sad fir family but it was his choice and there is plenty drug information around. |

But can trigger a heart attack in someone with heart problems. Also irregular heartbeat, dizziness, nausea and headache.
I don't criticise anyone who chooses to use them but be aware of the risks and don't expose others to them unless you've ok'd it with them first. |

With poppers they give you an artificial high. I know some people that now can't have sex without them, and have even passed out on numerous occasions due to overuse. They should be used sparingly if at all in my opinion.  |

We use them on occasion, we buy them from our local dealer (Anne Summers) who's a real bad ass and we use them purely as room oderisers rather than sniffing them directly from the bottle.  |

It's Amyl NITRITE, not nitrate (caps for emphasis, not shouting). This is one of the most widespread misnomers around.
If you sniff amyl nitrate, you'll die, or explode, or both :D
But seriously, even parts of wiki are wrong about this, it's so ingrained in the popular lexicon, I've even had a nurse debate it with me after showing me it in a cheap medical dictionary.
Ask a chemist/biochemist/pharmacist, or check out reputable reference sources.
As to the question, poppers, referring generically to alkyl nitrites, I think they're great for occasional use. Amyl is the best, but harder to get a hold of. Most of them are iso-butyl nitrite or similar.
They used to be used for angina attacks and were prescribed in small glass vials, which were "popped" open in a handkerchief and the vapour inhaled. |
