I don't think they've been considered taboo since the 60's maybe 70's have they? We have friends who are in interracial relationships, quite happily and greedily play with interracial singles and couples etc. We've never really considered it before tbh but we can't see a problem with it

People act as though racism is back in the dark ages but I still see and hear plenty of it. Mostly of ignorance, some malicious.
There seem to be more and more with the 'no Blacks/Asians (just my 'preference')' line on here too.
I don't think there's generally an issue about mixed relationships though. At least not that people would admit to openly. |

some people consider them taboo even now. I doubt the BNP membership are massively encouraging of them for example.
Having first hand experience of a mixed race relationship I would say that in general people are more accepting now but lots of people still think its wrong and would be deeply upset if a member of their family entered in to one. |

The answer should of course be no and for the majority I think it would be however yhe're are small factions of society who wouldn't agree ans not all White people either.
Older generations could possibly still harbour racist attitudes.
A lot of cultures forbid their children to date people from other races etc
It is a more enlightened world that we live in but there is still racism out there and those who think there isn't are blinkered. Just because you accept doesn't mean everyone does although they should.

No your 'preference' is for the things you prefer, not those you avoid. I can see why people would seek out what they most find attractive, but have difficulty understanding why people instead put an emphasis on what they don't. |

Yes my preference is for white, is what I meant but my post was getting too long (using mobile).
I havnt added any exclusions on my profile, just stuff I "prefer".
I personally do find it easier to not have to contact those that say they dont want asian, racist or not, and I dont mind because there is clearly a significant percent of members who dont mind, or infact prefer some colour with a good cock lol |

Met an Israeli girl in India and we fell passionately in love.
She phoned her parents about us.
First thing they asked was if I were a jew.
I phoned my mum up first thing she asked if she was black.
We are a mixed race couple and was amazed at how many mixed race couples go to abfabs.
Must be popular |

Yeah i have to say there does seem to be some blinkered responses on here. YES we are living in 2013 and NO racism isn't a thing of the past sadly. My ex was black and i found out rather harshly what some so called friends of both hers & mine thought about it, albeit not too blatant in front of us (which kinda makes it worse) But more like silly little jibes & comments. Altho when we were goin' through a rough patch & i was being mucked around a bit i was told it was because she was one of 'them', unreal. Personally i find black/mixed race gals extremely attractive and each to their own, but i would never pass judgement on any relationship based on race alone... |

I guess it depends on who you're talking too. My family is whiter than white, lived in the whitest city in the UK. I certainly had no experience with black or Asian guys until I moved away from York. But I'd bet you right now if I met a guy and had a serious relationship with him my mother would be more concerned about his employment history than his colour.
Racism is unfortunately still very prevalent in this country. We may not have the old 'no blacks, jews, or dogs' signs in the windows but there is still a taboo in certain areas of the country. Shame really. |
Reply privately (thread closed by moderator)
For the most part...no.
Certain areas of the North (of the UK) have a harder time accepting these than others (i guess the same could be said for the South, but i'm speaking from experience). But most SANE, tolerant people don't bat an eyelid at it. |

Thank you all for your opinions, but an even bigger thank you to those who read an understood the question i was asking, just to be clear my initial post was this:
"Are they still considered a taboo?
I don't mean in the swinging world i mean in the VANILLA world. Just an open question i'd like to here people thoughts on "
Seems a fair few of you missed the word vanilla. The reason i asked was because of my experience being with a non-asian lass and a conversation i had with a friend on here about mixed race relationships and whether the world had moved on. For me it was frowned upon from both sides and that was less than 7 years ago!!
So yes there was a reason why i brought it up for a general open discussion, no i haven't been locked in a cupboard for the last 30 years and i know it's 2013 but whomever thinks people have moved on and this is considered acceptable in wider society perhaps should read Medwayman and JFun's posts |

Whilst i agree with this. I also believe some do still look down at mixed race couples.
Sorry to say some of my own family had comments when i got pregnant
Admitted it isn't so much a factor now but there will always be those that disagree
A blanket statement saying in todays age; really is a bit daft.
Because not everyone will be honest & say its the colour of the person that's the issue. |
Reply privately (thread closed by moderator)
Its refusal to accept or acknowledge that racism still abounds that's dangerous. People I know quite well who seem well educated and intelligent would not accept a mixed race relationship in their family.
Coming from a home that my father once described as the league of nations I don't understand the mindset that's behind this way of thinking but I don't deny that it exists.
Complacency is dangerous. |

To be fair I think the OP asked a fair question. It SHOULN'T be tabboo in this day and age but I would say that some people would look twice at mixed race couples. Tabboo is probably too strong a word though, but I know if I was in a mixed race relationship, living where I do, I would expect second glances and comments. Not that it would stop me, before anyone says anything but some people are still very narrow minded about certain things. |

Honestly racisim is still eminent in our society of today, the difference is this days they add a smile to it, however its getting better than it used to be but most especially the Day everyone black white asian or whatever race begin to all see each other as one then it would be a better place which doubt is ever again, furthermore as regards to the swinging lifestyle we dont mind people who have no blacks or asians on there profile because we know people are here to live out their fantasies and everyone should be entitled to their own opinions. The weird part is couples who clearly have no blacks on their profiles speaking to us but oh well lol. |

I do think, although times have moved on, vanilla mixed race relationships are still looked at in an odd way. It's still an unfortunate but true side of some parts of society & the comments of disapproval come from both sides of the fence |

Sod em though, really
If they (who ever they are) care more about the colour of someones skin, and not of your happiness; do you really want them in your life?
I know I had no qualms about what I was doing, so I wont tolerate those that judged me based on my ex's skin colour.
Their opinions/thoughts just showed them for what they really are, and have had no impact on me, or my little one x |
Reply privately (thread closed by moderator)
For all of our friends its never even really discussed or mentioned.
But we have had the odd racist jibes on the street, ironically nearly always from other black people.
Previously with an ex we had one from a bus driver, shouting out the window of his cab. |

My niece has been totally disowned by her mum and the family apart from myself and my younger sister... Because she is now dating an Asian guy... And expecting his baby... While I personally wouldn't.. I don't think it's right she has been totally excluded.. but then my cousin suffered the same fate when he married a lady he had met while serving over seas.
My family is very anti mixed race... But I would hope I would be more understanding if it was my children. |

Racism is still alive and well sadly.
And as was pointed out above, there's no general issue with mixed relationships and if there was, you won't find people openly admitting it.
Ask a few Asian girls if their parents would freak if they brought a black guy home for them to meet?
Maybe "taboo" was the wrong word to use but to think society has moved on completely from the issue of interracial relationships is a little naive. |

Whilst by and large i would say we as a society have moved on and are more tolerant in the majority about lots of aspects, would also say for some any marriage or partnership outside of their perceived parameters (colour, class or culture etc) may be deemed to be 'taboo'..
same may well be said for same sex relationships, some will always have prejudice, ignorance and intolerance as part of their psyche.. |

It's not a silly question at all, and of course it depends on the people involved. Speaking personally (M), I had a relationship for five years with a woman whose parents never knew I existed, simply because my race meant the relationship would have been unacceptable to them.
Racism is the worst kind of stupidity, but sadly that doesn't preclude it from existing. |
