Went to a party not knowing anyone at all other than the emails exchanged with the host. Had a great time, got invited back for another and subsequently got an invite to yet another venue.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained and faint heart never won fair lady!!

It really depends upon your own attitude to others ... if you join in you will be accepted, but if you sit back and expect everyone to come running to you - it won't happen.

An example - we went to a social, a few years ago now when we were just branching into this lifestyle. We didn't know anyone except for a banter on the forums, a few messages etc etc. We got to the venue, had a mooch around, joined in with the banter and we had no problems being accepted.

Now on the other hand, another couple who attended the same social sat on a seperate table, never spoke to anyone, never joined in with anything then after everyone went home, slagged the whole thing off in the forums claiming that they had been left out and it was cliquey, and all the rest of it ..

You get out as much as you put in ..

That depends actually...we went to a newbies party...where most are newbies and you can couples only talking to each other...we tried talking to them but well...didn't get too much...maybe everyone is still nervous..:D...but when the playroom starts filling up...no talking...just actions..:D...

I agree you should be putting something out for people...but sometimes experienced members should make the newbies feel welcomed...:D

As we've said - it depends on your attitude towards other people ... experienced members will always make newbies feel welcome, but the newbie also has to make a contribution ....

The first party i went to was something of a suprise.

I went with my at the time girlfriend and another girl we both knew.

It was a great party, hosted by a once prominent swinging couple (for anyone who knew them) and they made us all very welcome, as did most of the people we met.

However, another female friend of mine acted like a total stranger, and had her own little clique of friends who all seemed to try to make us feel unwelcome. She later apologised and said it was just because we were unknown.

Seemed weird that the only person i knew was the only one that made me feel unwelcome.

Its a combination of a great host and newbies making the effort also.

A team effort if you like.

No way would i have had anyone sat on their own or in a corner at my parties.

Just wasnt allowed.

party games are a good way of breaking the ice etc.

And we sure had a few of them .lmao

I do miss them actually and maybe ...just maybe may have another.?

who knows ?

We have been to a couple of parties, mostly knowing just one or no couples at all.. As anyone who knows us knows were the shy retiring types but seem to always have a good time when were there... Just a few games etc its usually been fun.

Well yes we think it is down to how you organise the party (if you are hosts) one rule we have is that anyone coming does *not* know everyone else already.... we like to make it a mixture picked from old friends and new faces - that way it can't ever be cliquey (is that how to speell it? lol) plus it always keeps it fresh and exciting

Fabville !!!

The parties we have been to have been great, but as said previously you need to make the effort speak to people, socialise, or as we say at work "network" lol. Find out if you have anything in common that can break the ice. Have to say though we have been to a couple of socials and left early, having made a great effort, but only for it to be "them and us" so that's why we avoid socials. We felt out of place and it was embarassing.
