Probably because the abbreviations are the accepted and readily recognised expressions for those things. It's like telling people to say 'the British Broadcasting Corporation' or 'the Auto-mobile Association' when we know them as the BBC and the AA. |

It didn't. Land mines generally are manufactured by arms companies. IEDs are home made, hence Improvised. |

When I was trying for a baby I was on a conception forum and it's funny how you get used to the acronyms about trying for a baby and family in general.
.DD = dear daughter, so DS ...OH for other half, mil/fil for the in laws, DTD - do the deed, BD is baby dance which is a god awful way of saying have sex! TTC for trying to conceive, POAS = pee on a stick aka do a test.
