Amazing how many people don't understand about BV.

Yes there may be ladies out there who may be a tad unhygenic, but the offensive fishy smell is BV and not many ladies are aware they have it.

Its not a STD and there is lots of helpful info on the previous thread and no lady should be embarrassed buying products or going to the drs for swabs and antibiotics.

I don't see why there should be any sort of debate on it, I'm sure women don't like cheesy cocks either, hence why I would have thought its standard procedure for most to have a good shower and scrub prior to meeting?

That's maybe true. But as was said, being clarty is a cause, so can being too clean with the wrong products.

Cheesy cocks are only caused by being clarty.

always squeaky clean for meets, but its over scrubbing which causes the problem. Takes away the natural bacteria. I would never meet with a smelly foof, I'm lucky that I'm aware when my PH balance changes and act on it straight away with the Balance active gel.

I'd rather someone did tell me if I was smelly! Would hate to open my legs and honk of fish! I might get thrown into the Irish sea!

"Maybe but a bath an hour before a meet sorts it..bath twice daily should be no problem..nette"

not if you have BV. This is what I'm getting at.

The strong fishy odor is usually BV in most cases and you need either antibotics off the dr, or the gel they sell in supermarkets.

Over washing can cause the issue.

"Dont care . Just sort it .... Uuuuggggh ! FFS

whats the problem? Some ladies are unaware they have it

Fish is not a natural body odour though is it?"

No it's not and I can speak with some authority on this as I reckon I've had this 3 times now and it's not pleasant. I put it down to using baby wipes in the end, so that's a complete no no. its not that strong that people would know unless you did indulge in sexual activity, but there's no way that's been on my agenda. So trip down the quacks, get the antibiotics that have been quoted already and it clears up very quickly, as in no smell after 2 days into the course. You also cant drink on these tablets for 9 days so its a bit of a cleansing experience

So no I'm not ashamed to admit this, no I couldn't give a flying if anyone interpretes my admission as I have a smelly fanny all the time. We're all supposed to be grown ups and these things happen. It's how you deal with it that counts in my book.

I never heard of fem fresh. All I can say is the antibiotics are very strong, so I don't imagine an off the shelf product would be the same.

Don't worry, its just an infection, not the end of the world and it will wait until your GP is open okay. Maybe have a think about your cleaning routine like I did though. x

Excellent post!

I also get it quite frequently, and don't always know I have it unless the GUM clinic picks it up. As I posted on the last post about this, BV is also caused by having regular sex. There is no way to prevent it if you are prone to it (I asked the doctor!), and you have to take Metronidazole for a week, which is hefty antibiotic which can give you stomach problems and thrush. Add to that it seems a lot of people are woefully under-educated about this and its not surprising some women won't know they have it, whatever they smell like.

Cut us some slack guys. As has been said, washing, bathing, showering, and baby-wiping doesn't have any effect on BV, but a smelly cock is easily remedied by a good wash.

"Femfresh.....

!!!Buy some soap???

I agree with the people that are trying to dare I say "educate some people." Its like a bunch of primary school children have been let loose, I myself have never suffered with such a thing, and would like to think, like with anything else, that people seen as out of the norm, or different, to others, are not topic to take the piss out of.

Women shouldn't use scented soap, on their vaginas as it messes with the natural PH balance, it does nothing to improve the hygiene of your vagina. If nothing else, it will make your vagina smell worse, since it kills all the good bacteria. (Is it wrong, that I keep giggling, each time I type vagina? )....anyway, moving swiftly on....I have used femfresh, since being about 13, when I started my periods. When shopping in boots, one day, I asked for some help with buying tampax, and a dear old woman, showed me the whole array, including Femfresh. Ive never used anything else but this on my lettuce since. I don't take kindly to you taking the piss, as there may be women on this site, that are reading things like this for the first time (may seem crazy to some) but jeez, shake and vac?!?! get a grip and I won't be so assumptious as to say, "of your cheesy dick"...oh whoopsie, I just did.

No they can't because it isn't an infection nor a disease. It's simply an imbalance in the natural bacteria.

Women can pass it to each other though through sharing sex toys.

It's nice to see it being discussed light heartidly but seriously guys u have no idea!

After my last visit to GUM all clear I might add, I was suffering with thrush and BV for about the 8th time, I know the old witch well! This time I wasn't actually aware I had it!!!! Shock horror! And the guy I was regular with hadn't noticed either so sometimes it can be undetected by the owner if the vagina concerned!

Some people are prone to it, I am one of them, I have a coil which increases the problem!

Advice given to me was to never use soap anywhere near the region as in above knee and below waste, seriously I thought wtf there's no way I can do that!

I try really hard to keep all soap products away from said foof but it's really hard, even ph balanced stuff like femfresh can cause problems by taking away the natural bacterial load that skin should have to stay healthy, occasional use of an emollient cream like diprobase can be used for washing, I use it at that time if the month and that's it!

Sadly even doing this I still get it from lube and condoms! It's bloody hard and a pain in the arse! Guys u have no idea!

Sometimes it has no symptoms just a stronger smell when u have sex, sometimes it smells like a fish market or boiled cauliflower even! Other times just a but more discharge which is grey and milky! U can't catch it but u can treat it!

Antibiotics r horrible to take as they are a massive dose and can make u quite ill feeling. Try the gels available and please please ladies just use water to clean ur intimate areas, as informed by the nice nurse in GUM! Oh an no sponges or scouring pads either

Sadly even doing this I still get it from lube and condoms! It's bloody hard and a pain in the arse! Guys u have no idea!

i always use simple soap but sometimes my fanny stings when i wash it so i put pasante tlc lube on it then the soap doesnt sting, it looks and feels like hair conditioner, also salt in the bath water is good.

Also you need to drink plenty of fluids, water, tea and coffee.

What has keeping your urinary tract including bladder, clear, got to do with BV?

Unless you're going off on a tangent which is absolutely fine .

Another thing to consider is your underwear. You don't want to get too hot there as that kills off some bacteria and promotes others, creating an imbalance. So cotton knickers only, no pantyhose or best of all go commando.

You can't compare the two. Cheesy cocks are just dirty bad hygiene but bv is a bacterial infection that needs anti biotics to cure it

agreed that one is due to bad hygiene

but abstaining from sex with others would be advisable unless soap and/or antibiotics have resolved any issues.

It's supposed to restore the natural PH balance - you don't eat it - you put it up your foof xx

Make sure the yoghurt is live yoghurt.

My female gp also recommended drinking probiotic drinks.

I thankfully have never suffered with this but have always been taught just to use water on my lady bits, because soap upsets the ph balance.

The only time my foof is smelly is if my oh cums inside me and the morning after can always tell he's been there lol!!!

But a quick wash and all is fine again!

"Bacterial vaginosis

Thank you Sounds rank "

Very common. It is an imbalance of normal bacterias in the vagina and/or an altered PH.

"Bacterial vaginosis can occur if you:

• use scented soaps or perfumed bubble bath

• put antiseptic liquids in the bath

• douche or use vaginal deodorant

• use strong detergents to wash your underwear

• smoke.

Hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle, semen in the vagina after sex without a condom, use of an intrauterine contraceptive device and genetic factors may also play a part."

It poses no problems to men. It can exist with or without symptoms.

Sorry but I have to correct you here, you definitely don't put it up your chuff, think about it...dairy stuff in a hot environment, that's bad news. What you do, and this comes from a doctor, is eat it. You may think but how will the bacteria get from my stomach to my chuff/foof/fanny, well it goes through your gut, your digestive system and out the end everything comes out, which is conveniently close to where you want it to go, the bacteria will find it's way (minus the dairy part).

From NHS choices

Although using yoghurt won't do you any harm, there's no evidence to suggest that it will relieve the symptoms of thrush or help treat it and it should not be considered a main treatment.

If you want to try using plain live yoghurt, one method is to smear it directly over the vulva to ease any soreness or irritation and then insert it directly into the vagina.

The easiest way to do this is to use a tampon with an applicator. Push the tampon back inside the applicator, add about one teaspoon of plain live yoghurt to the space and insert the tampon in the usual way. Remove the tampon an hour later.

There is currently no evidence that probiotics, such as those found in live yoghurt, are of any benefit in treating or preventing BV.

It's the only thing that worked for me. I had every kind of medication from the doctor, all the creams and the pills. The pills made me sick and the effect didn't last as the antibiotics are indiscriminate in which bacteria they kill off so the imbalance continues. Eating live yoghurt worked within a few days. I think the "good" bacteria just needed a boost in numbers to match the "bad" bacteria.

The pro-biotics are not for treating the BV though. They're for helping to prevent the almost inevitable thrush you get after taking a weeks course of incredibly strong anti-biotics.

I had BV once, earlier this year. Like others have said it came up at the clinic. I didn't have any symptoms like discharge or bad smell. But I know my washing regime involves way more soap than my fanny would be happy with so it wasn't a big surprise.

I was given one massive horse tablet of an antibiotic and told that if I drank 24 hours either side of it I'd be sick as a dog. And that was that. To my knowledge I haven't had it again.
