I agree, the best way to do this stuff is decide what you want, how you want it and stick with that. Defining it often means you're using someone elses criteria and you'll end up doing things you don't really want to because it comes under the definition of swinger in the dictionary.
When we first started out a couple told us we would never get any meets because we weren't proper swingers  this may have been because we didn't fit their definition or because we refused to go to their house to have sex with them at ten minutes notice without seeing any pictures at all  |

For a couple you could say two people in a committed relationship including a sexual relationship who have decided to have sex with other likeminded people outside of their relationship with the willing consent and encouragement from their partner.

My daughter has very long hair. Now bear with me here.
I was once out walking my dog. Whilst on said walk he chose to empty himself, as is his wont. Prior to the walk in question he must have swallowed some of my daughters hair (is anyone thinking ahead here?)
When he rose from his squatting position and trotted off ahead of me I couldn't help beholding the distressing yet amusing sight before me. A golf ball sized chunk of poo attatched to the end of one of my daughters hairs swingingg like a pendulum 'twixt his rear legs a good half foot beneath the orifice from whence it came. And it wasn't even conker season !
I had the unnerving task of removing the poo pendulum with a stick chasing him around the woods as I did so.
So that, ladies and gents, is my definition of a swinger.

A member of a couple who has consentual sex with their partner in front of other people or having sex with other people.
The problem comes with the definition of singles who are part of the "other people" or have NSA sex with singles.
And that last phrase is which leads to most of the "what is swinging" threads on fab.
