'Text speak' as it's called. Does anyone else hate it as much as me? I tend to reply please resend the message using the English language. Now I accept we all make spelling / grammar errors, I certainly do. But you receive several mails from people spelling 'you're' as 'ur' and calling you m8 after you've sent sent them various replies saying please communicate using the English language. I don't want such morons in my home, am I being unfair, they're wanting to come her and get fucked, who's the loser if they don't get an invite?

I'm not a massive fan of txt spk. But I find it amusing that it takes quite a high level of literacy to communicate via it - but apparently not so to criticise it.

Tell me how you equate someone using text speak to being a moron? If its that important to you then stop being the go between, its simple really, maybe try Mensa instead?

I don't think so, but if they're so stupid as not understand a couple of emails I don't really trust them to use the toilet either. I'd rather not have pis all over my bathroom floor, if they're incapable of understanding several emails I'd hate to think what else they can't understand??? Anyway this way nearly everyone's a winner, ladies get shagged by nice guys who can string a sentence together. Nice guys with half a brain get to shag nice women. I get to shag nice women. It seems to say to me that they are not that bright. At a GB / party I enjoy the company of intelligent fun people as i would at any other social event. Few of us can fuck constantly for 4 to 6 hours I remember when I could, those were the days)

However I do get some pleasure out of this, being into being dom and a bit of a sadist, I'm keeping him on tenterhooks son he thinks if he gets it right he'll get an invite

Happy ending to story, he replied in the English language once he got what I was on about. Sent him this reply plus my formal invite with address etc:

"!Sorry about the mess around but I hate the way the English language is being fucked around and misused since texting came in. I work with and use it all the time and hate it's misuse. It's considered to be one of the greatest languages for the creation of literature, Shakespeare, Dickens and the bloke who wrote 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Please respect it, now feel free to shag Misha and Jo, also whoever else is there to your hearts content."

u asked the question if it was reasonable...some think it was just over the top

if u (note the 'U') want to have a party whatever...perhaps u could be a little less judgmental?... a simple, please dont type in text speak would have sufficed, as u need to understand if they were able to join

now thats not rocket science...but ur immensely long response would imply in my eyes...aye ok...

I also cannot bear people who write things like 'u' or 'ur' or similar.

I guess maybe it's because I'm a writer by trade and I believe it shows a lack of care and consideration. Or maybe it's because my peer group was the first to pioneer such a wonderful interpretation of the written word and realise it was intended for when you are limited on written characters.

In an email when you have no character limit I see no reason to shorten words and deliberately misspell.

I usually try and put up with it for a few messages, but if they don't redeem themselves with something else interesting then I just usually politely explain why (if they ask) and leave it there.

erm... without looking at your profile, im guessing its a woman that will be coming to yours and getting fucked, right?

in which case, you are the loser, as for every bloke that doesnt like having sex with a woman that uses text speak, there are 5 that doesnt care, as long as she has tits, a fanny, and swallows.

however, if you are organising a gb or something for others, at your gaff, then, unless its a spelling bee or something, i really dont see how communication matters.

its not like the 'object' of the bang is going to be holding an english gcse to see who goes first and who gets the saggy sloppy endings.

Text speak works very well as a filter as does certain words and language which do not appeal to me. If the message does not appeal to me for any reason it gets a simple "thanks but no thanks" reply.

I can't speak for others, but personally I'm not just looking (generally) for one off shags where I never speak to the person again and don't care what their personality is like. I'm hoping for regular playmates and company to clubs and similar and part of that is being on a similar wavelength to me.

I guess if all you're ever after is a fuck then it really doesn't matter, but not everyone is just after that.

I'm afraid that I to do not like text speak and refuse to answer my kids when they use it because it's annoying to have to show other people your messages to get them translated .

But I accept that it is in common usage and if we get a message on here in text speak it just means the sender is just different to us .

My only worry is the usage of LOL , I have been told it means laugh out loud !.

Really ? So every other sentence they write back they are laughing out aloud ?, erm is that not a little odd ?.

I also asked what PMSL meant , really ?, oh dear !.

By (user no longer on site)  over a year ago

I think text speak is only annoying when it's too hard to understand.

I understand some people do use their phones to reply on here so text speak can just be quicker and easier.

I agree that it does take a certain level of understanding of the english language to convert it into text speak (sometimes) so I find spelling mistakes and grammar errors far more irritating.

I can excuse a typo or two but would honestly rather see a 'ur' than the wrong version of you're/your.

I will not excuse people shortening words into text speak that don't need shortening, or writing one liners.

"hi how use"

No capitals, no commas, no question mark, no reply lol.

Brighton - even Hove!

As an extremely mild aside, a guy mentioned back up there about speaking in 1337 language. I saw a programme once and they thought we might not have been able to understand people from Henry VIII's time never mind 1337. For example, "Hallowed be they name", they think would have been "Hallod be tha nom". As an even spookier coincidence, I decided just the other day on the fora to speak as if it

were 1937. The plural of 'forum' is 'fora' but if I said 'forums', you would all know what I meant. QED.

Why bother arguing about it?

I simply use it as a self-sorting system - if someone thinks that "txt speak" is a good enough way to introduce themselves, then I just figure that they are unlikely to be someone that I'd enjoy meeting - so they don't even get a reply....

As for men pissing all over the bathroom - they are welcome to, 'cos it's going to be their bathroom - they aren't getting anywhere near mine!

Yes, I'm a right fussy bitch - but I enjoy my meets and have my own limits, and it works just fine for me thank you!

Well I for one are with you on this text speak thing. I delete messages from guys who use it, it's fine for texting and in my mind that's where it should stay!

The answer to your initial question is obviously a "no" judging by the replies. I, however, tend to be in agreement with you. It never ceases to amaze me how a kid living in a mud hut in the middle of Africa speaks better English than a kid brought up to use txt speak in the UK. The dumbing down of a language is never a good thing in my opinion.

"'Text speak' as it's called. So why message them back in the first place?"

I'm gonna have to agree...if I don't like the first message I may not even reply back, sometimes I give them the benefit of the doubt , the errors could be auto correct it depends all I ask is for more than a "hi" that annoys me to much, or the Stupid wink and friends request When you know you'll never hear from them lol if after the second message and they still aren't trying I just don't waste my time depending on the person I will use some shorthand but not so much that its annoying

I generally dislike text speak, and find it very off-putting. I'd assess someone overall, before deciding whether to continue. If they weren't using a phone, it would seem a little out of context.

I don't see the problem with it I don't really like it myself but like most people with a bit of intelligence I don't get frustrated to the point I have to moan about it. There is a delete button and a block button and the IQ level to use both of them isn't that high and its far easier than getting frustrated over trivial matters.

I will use U, UR, R U, and WKEND as abbreviations on a phone text for speed and space saving but that's as "text speak" as I get.

I'd never use it in a written message and can't imagine using the text speak that teenagers use, I'd need an ENIGMA machine to understand that.

To me, using text speak in normal written messages is a combination of laziness and illiteracy. R

Let's be fair.

These morons as you call them. Have had to learn a whole new language to the one they were taught to read and write in. So I'd go out on a limb and say that there probably quite intelligent really. I can't write in text speech no matter how hard I try.

Just politely place it in your profile not to send you text messages. If they do, they either didn't read your profile, ignored your request or can't follow instructions. Just send them a polite " No Thanks." and move on. There are plenty of others out there you can meet.

Nothing. Best to spell it correctly to emphasise your point though

The 'illiteracy' assumptions are incorrect too. We're fortunate to live in a country where even idiots are literate, of which there are plenty of examples.

"The plural of 'forum' is 'fora' but if I said 'forums', you would all know what I meant. QED."

Most modern authorities would say the plural of "forum" is now "forums". But then there's "media", "trivia", but (maybe) no longer "curricula". The English language is not consistent, is changing all the time, and it is constantly adding new words and phrases to itself. The point is that this is done On Demand - we're the ones making these changes as and when we need to. Text speak is just part of that, a shorthand created for a purpose.

However, while text speak may be fine on the mobile phone, I've noticed that some Fab profiles need a few readings before they make any sense. Communication isn't everybody's strong point, let's face it.

haha - like I said at the very start it takes a high level of literacy to communicate by abbreviated language. But any moron can criticise it, and you provide no better example.

In simple plain English however, for your benefit - yes I saw your profile, I saw you have lots of verifications for organising for other people to have sex. I also noted that much of your profile is written with abbreviations.

Do I feel inadequate for having a profile without a list of verifications? No.

Do I feel inadequate for my ability to use language in different ways? Strangely enough, no.

Do I have any doubt who the moron is in this debate?..

No.

Clearly we do things differently, some of the most intelligent folk we know or have met over the years have used abbreviated messaging when contacting us.

A well worded profile in conjunction with a clearly understood 'history' of meeting with clearly verifiable people is all that we require on first contact.

I am very old fashioned when it comes to communication. When I email someone, I still start the message with the word "Dear". In my previous professional life, I was amazed how many business messages were littered with text speak or other abbreviations. What really got me going were emails from complete strangers that started with "Hi".

As regards the OP, I would just be grateful that someone wanted to meet me for sex, so I wouldn't pass judgement on their misuse of our language. After all, in a 1 to 1 situation, text speak won't be relevant, unless you use it instead of going through the alphabet with your tongue when going down on a woman.

As my profile and forum contributions will have indicated, I prefer longhand English.

As for saving time when typing txspk - that takes me far longer than normal language, but then - I am a practiced typist.

Earlier tonight I messaged somebody and after rereading the sent post realised that I'd typed *you're* in stead of *your*. Aaaargh. It's catching!

And yes - I delete ur-messages, mainly because it takes too much energy to translate it. What does baffle me is reading words like 'thort' in otherwise decent messages, or 'defiantly' in stead of 'definately'.

Last point: English is not even my mother tongue. If I can learn and use it...

Nicely put
