"It's now got listed status "
Unfortunately that does not make it safe just a lot more difficult for the council to knock it down if they still want to. |

"Isn't Preston allegedly where Paul Simon wrote Homeward Bound?
Nope he wrote it on the platform of Widnes station.
That's what wiki says. I'm not convinced."
I am. |

There was a lengthy discussion on Mudcat years ago.
Nobody could find a reason why Simon would have been in Widnes. His agent didn't reckon he'd ever had a gig there. |

From a Paul Simon inter_iew.
"
Paul Simon lived in Brentwood, Essex, England when he wrote this song. When traveling back from Wigan, where he was playing, he got stuck on the station and wrote this. The song has a double meaning: literally, wanting for a ticket home to Brentwood, but on the other hand, yearning to go to his home in the US. (thanks, Paul - London, England)
Simon talked about this song in a 1990 inter_iew with SongTalk magazine: "That was written in Liverpool when I was traveling. What I like about that is that it has a very clear memory of Liverpool station and the streets of Liverpool and the club I played at and me at age 22." |

It's also been associated with Wigan and Warrington stations. |
