Would you shop a club?
Jump to: Newest in thread
You go to a licenced swingers club and order a Cointreau and lemonade. It goes distinctively cloudy when mixed. The drink you are served does not. The bartender shows you that it came from an authentic bottle. It is obviously some cheap version of orange schnapps or similar which has been poured into the bottle deliberately.
Do you report the club to the authorities? |

"No tell him to get proper stuff x"
If they have been silly enough to fake something so obvious would you not suspect that all of the spirits are cheap (maybe even dangerous) imitations? Meaning you are happy to be ripped off, and potentially risk your health?
You have paid good money in membership, entrance charge and at the bar remember.... |

Seems this con is more rife than I wanted to believe, went to a different club, same story...fake Cointreau if that's dodgy, then I'd bet most of the other shots are too.
Such a shame that the places we trust con their customers in this way. Feeling very disappointed, takes the shine off an evening for me. |

go to Chams no licence bring your own booze or buy soft drinks and brilliant atmosphere
if they do get caught the fine and the penalties etc will probably make them think about whether they will continue to trade. weigh it up - does your local boozer offer the same 'facilities or services'
stick to bottles or soft drink
also I find I steer towards the men drinking soft drinks rather than the boozy ones who start to forget the etiquette rules in a club after a few drinks |

I think that any licenced premises that is possibly selling counterfeit drink should be reported. Imagine the arguing at the weights and measures office over who gets to visit the swingers club for business purposes. |

Thing is if they swap bottle contents...where else do they cut corners? Date expired condoms? Poor cleaning supplies? Licensed disposal of used condoms or just popped in the dustbin?
Thin end of wedge so yes report everytime. |

None of those are really reasons for not reporting a possible crime though are they?

in answer to your questions yes we would report them, your a paid member of a club yes you do not know what your drinking if its a cheap copy whats in it, people have allergies , if you watch fake britain a guy ate what he thought was cod and chips from his local chippy but it was not cod, he was in a coma for 3 weeks , allergic reaction to tha fish, so cheap copies are not always better, |

Yes I would, I'm sorry but I value my health too much to risk drinking something I wasn't happy with.
No place if they are above board should have any problems with being investigated and the way I see it provided everything is as it should could only make it a better place.

Yes, because it's deception. If it's a licensed (alcohol) business they can get in loads of trouble for doing that - and they can get a nice, big fine for it too. If you gave them a fake £20 note when you went in, what would they do..???
What's good for the goose and all that...

Definite report to Trading Standards by letter, with full details.
The sale by retail of alcohol and the supply of alcohol by or on behalf of a club are both licensable activities. Licensing Act 2003; what you are suggesting is that the Club is behaving fraudulently by passing off one product as another.

the clubs know you wont shop them,
they figure you wouldn't want publicity, for being in a swingers club.
the biggest con is gin and tonic, pour gin in a bowl, rinse top of glass in gin, add ice and tonic, you get taste of gin, from glass rim, but paing for just tonic |

Actually I've been looking into this - you only have to send an email, and as anyone can set one up in minutes its pretty much anonymous.
Have to agree with the vast majority - there is no choice but to report. I hope others do too, if they are unfortunate enough to come across it - show the clubs we won't stand for this deceptive behaviour...Cheers Fabsters xx |

Cheap lemonade can make spirits react differently so that could be the reason , as spirits are cheap now they would only be making 20-30p each per drink by doing that . |

In the second club there was a second, unopened bottle of Cointreau. The bartender poured a measure from this, added lemonade from the same bottle, and hey presto- a cloudy genuine drink which I went on to enjoy. |

"did you raise with management at the time
havent read the whole thread, apologies if you have mentioned that later"
No, I didn't. I explained clearly to the barstaff why I was rejecting the drinks. It was up to them if they fed this back to the club management. I feel for me to have done that at the time would have further dampened my enjoyment of the night. Plus...why warn them and give then the chance to clean their acts up? Report to the relevant legal authorities and let them suffer the consequences of their actions.... |

I will experiment but the only thing that might be close to cointreau is triple sec and thats only 15-20p cheaper per shot .
Please don't try and talk me out of this experiment , I will sacrifice myself in the name of honesty ...... |

From the Official Cointreau website “Correctly stored, it will remain in good condition for many years. However, to be enjoyed at its very best, Cointreau should be consumed within three years after manufacture.” |

Does it tell you the correct way to store it ? as mine is on a shelf with spotlights above ( serious question ).

Yes definitely, nothing to do with health reasons, it's purely the money, not that I mind spending a few quid when I'm out enjoying myself but that I don't like being near money grubbing little chisellers, they put a dark cloud over wherever they go!
ALL DRINKS LESS THAN A FIVER!!!
"That'll be £4.99.9 plz!!!!
Conniving scum!

If they have been serving non genuine drinks then they should be reported.
We know a local pub who have been reported a couple of times for serving cheap store vodka and whisky in expensive bottles. |

If you actually try it you might be fooled by the first sip ( if you were that d*unk that you'd not be able to stand ) but after that the tonic and your lips will have washed away any taste of gin off the glass , so unless you have no taste buds or down it in one with gin being a fairly strong taste you notice . But if the barman/woman points behind you and shouts "look an eagle" whilest prending to pour your gin that there might be a case , and if they go to all that trouble for a 45p shot of gin ( 1 ltr of gin £18 25ml shots = 40 shots ).
When I was a bar manager I'd got some good stories ( we all like to be a bit roguish us bar managers and we are all normally good friends with the local gangsters ) |
