After reading several strange names ... Ones that wouldn't like my wife to be called ..

Do you fill past people just by their name ?..

Ive never really noticed however i absolutely do .. right or wrong ?

I think some names must be their biggest barrier to getting some action.

There's some bizarre names, that I'm sure they are done in jest, but putting something like knifeman or axe maniac, is surely a small insight into the mind of the person writing it (apologies to anyone with those user names, no offence meant)

Even if it isn't an insight, would you go and meet them?

I make no apologies for reading a lot into people's user names. It's the first thing you have to choose when you register on the site and it's often the thing which people put the least thought into - initially... and in the process, it actually says more about them than they probably want you to know... or at least what their attitude to Swinging actually is..

We've changed ours a couple of times over the last 18 months until we came up with something which WE were happy with, and which actually gives a fairly good hint about 'us' to the viewer.

Yes I do and nine times out of ten the name influences my decision even after reading a profile.. Quite often because of this it's a case of ingnoring winks and friend requests, etc..

It probably shouldn't make a difference, however, it does to me.

Certain user names make me groan, instantly and in the wrong sense, so I'll skip it and sometimes not even read the profile

We think they say a lot of about the user/s of the profile, and gives insights into the type of people they are (their personalities etc) and what they are into.

I agree with this, it certainly does speak volumes at times. But to the same degree there are those that change their usernames to fit in with others on here.

It was a real pain in the arse to come up with a forum name at the time of registering - I had FIVE names rejected as they were currently in use, so in desperation I used the title of the song that was playing on the radio at the time.

Subsequently changed it to a character from Blackadder

Yes I do that sometimes for usernames (both men and women) that are too long or too complicated to read. And I've even found one that really scared me. The thing is, when you join the site and choose your username you do not know that there is an option to search by said username so if that functionality of the site is used by someone, and you are named 'xwertniuyxj' what chances do you have to be found amongst the 10000's?

That does not mean that someone with a catchy and easy to remember username will have more chances of attracting my attention than a long and complicated one - as Yohoho said, the picture avatar is an important decider.

Off point but about 4 years ago my chinese g/f wanted to check interacial 3somes by inviting some black guys to our bed. Set up a profile with some anodyne name and got nowhere really. Then changed it to something more direct, "WeLoveBBC" (forget exact ID). It worked very effectively and very quickly as the target market responded en masse.

So maybe "names" just like "size" matter,,,

I read a LOT into usernames. I am sure some people will disagree with me on this. A certain type of username is guaranteed to stop me contacting or replying to somebody.
