Block Lists. Are you 'proactive' or just 'reactive'?

I guess the question could also be phrased as 'How do use yours?'
I see it as an addition to the filter system, rather than a button to be pressed as a response to some kind of interaction - an abusive or ranty message, a random friends request, an unwanted wink or someone disagreeing with you on a forum thread.
I'll admit - if someone sends me an abusive message they'll in likelehood end up there - but my list tends to be more made up of those who have contacted me that i've no interest/desire to continue chatting to or look to meet, those serial gawpers who peruse your profile endlessly with age old verificationless, pictureless profiles, and my latest set of additions - those 'couples' that spend their evenings trawling the chat rooms and peeking at every cam on display.
I've started clicking on the profiles of couples in certain rooms and have noticed a strange pattern emerging! A high percentage have virtually no text, no veri's, no pics and have been on site over a year! Now I could be mistaken but I suspect I know exactly who's sat behind these profiles - and it's unlikely to be two people of differing genders!
So how do choose who gets consigned to your block bin? And do you wait for a reason to hit that button - or actively go looking for people to prevent contacting/viewing you? |

I have blocked people based on forum posts. If they blatantly display homophobia, ignorance or generally behave in an obnoxious manner towards others. Mainly because I wouldn't want to interact with those kinds of people.
I have also blocked people who have sent me one line messages and then failed to come up with better when I've mailed them back.
I'm sure I'm on plenty of block lists too and I'm fine with that.... |

Dont block immediately unless abusive.
If after we respond to a message with a no thanks and they continue with "ah go on" or whatever then they get blocked |

Please don't read any arrogance into this (I've seen people getting slated for less on here...) but I get a lot of mail. I mean a lot. As I'm looking for pretty specific things, I tend to block people who don't fall into this category. While it may sounds pretty radical, it saves my inbox for second or third rounds of mail from these peeps and also, saves them the time of composing those... If that makes sense.

I only block people if they're, rude, abusive or annoyingly persistent...unfortunately there's a massive amount of people that have been just plain nasty on there! |

As a mere mortal single guy I can guarantee I don't get the same levels of mail - but seems you use the block facility as I do - as an additional preventative filter - and there's certainly nothing wrong with that! |

Don't use mine at all
I am capable of :
- telling someone to do one if they become a nuisance
- reporting someone
- ignoring someone
I also have a good memory for people I have seen before
So the block button kinda serves no purpose for me
Oh and at the mo, I have filters on anyone who isn't on my friends list / I haven't chatted with before, so they'd have a job gettin thru in the first place |

I block anyone who sends me an initial message without a joke (apart from forumites) which is about 95% of my list, probably another 3 or 4% is people I've chatted to wrt meeting who've never been able to actually set a date and the last 1 - 2% is that rare creature, a user that has managed to really piss me off or offend me with a forum post (as I'm the most laid back person it has to be spectacularly offensive)
Oh, and Brightonsteve cos he's a twat |

I have very few on my block list because I use the note facility so unless they are abusive I don't see the point in blocking everyone after all its not Facebook is it |

I block a lot more now then when I first joined. I use it as a tool for unwanted/repeat messages from someone who I've said no to. And anyone who is abusive! Also those who keep changing their name, but stupidly keep the same pics |

I now block when people hassle me once I've said no. I had one man mail me the same boring cut and paste drivel three times in as many days and had the nerve to say he couldn't remember me. Charming lol |

Same. Blocked for openly displaying an unpleasant personality IMO, blocked for copying bits of my profile (and sorry guys, that meant I had to block all), blocked for not being willing or able to string a few words together in a friendly and coherent manner. Oh and a couple of people I blocked by accident.
I will block Obi if he doesn't get rid of those ridiculous glow in the dark rings. |

You told me to send you a joke. So I sent you a cock pic. What's the problem? *puzzled* |

Ive blocked people for persistent messaging when ive already said no t u to them or if a rude message is sent. But have got one on my list I met and he said he would verify me, I did him and got nothing back, also no contact which he said he would keep in touch also. So lesson learned by me, I dont believe anyone here anymore until they show their face and genuinely do what they say they will do. |

I use it as a filter to block guys who continue to message after I have declined and those who are abusive (usually after being declined!).
Havent ever used it to block someone whose forum post I have felt to be offensive - I figure its down to admin to deal with them appropriately not me! |
