I don't think it's just about picture collecting and it's something that happens on other sites too, not just swinging/sex sites.
For example, take a look at myspace and facebook. You get loads of people invite you to be friends who have never spoken to you before and in many instances never talk to you again. Some do and thats the mark of a potentially good friend.
Alot of people are mere friend collectors and they do it because to them having a long list of friends is a status symbol which may indicate to others this person is popular. Take a look for yourselves. I personally keep my friends lists small so i get to know people well and have deleted someone from facebook who boasted they had reached their 5,000 friend limit! I mean how can anyone have 100, 200, 300+ 'friends' and ever get to know them? It's no different on a swinging site...people want big friends lists to look popular and obviously don't meet or chat with 99% of the people on them. I'm sure alot of them won't even look at peoples profile pictures either and i know of people who bulk invite so to speak without even reading about someone! Sad but that's what i have found alot of people to be like... |

Got a friends invite from one couple we had never spoken to, never had a mail from and never met, actually we get lots but this one stood out because thier profile had over 1000 friends listed, yes i counted them it took me ages.
They had been on the site for 11 months but had no verifications for real meets, in fact no verifications at all, that one went in the bin straight away.
We only add people to our friends list that we have met in person. |

We know of a guy that has been on here some time, had no verifications, yet has met a few, and like he did with us asked not to be verified, however we spoke with him about what it means and so he said he was ok to be verified, and so we did, we are his only verification yet he has met several from here.
So maybe if one doesn't bother with the forums then they may not understand how some see this site to work, a bit like the difference in opinion of winks etc.
We don't accept friends invites unless we have spoke a few times generally.

Maybe that man thinks the same as we do shagarooney...we only have to prove to the people we meet who we are, and not everyone else.
He probably get more meets as most people like to see verifications but there must be other people like us who don't put verifications as the be all and end all as he has met many by the sounds of it without verifications
We don't add anyone as friends, mainly because there are no other pics on our profile anyway, but,if we did, requests to add from people you have never even spoke to wouldn't get added anyway.
I am guessing the people with what seems like hundreds of "friends" can't really speak to them all.

We think some people collect friends like boy scouts badges. we will never accept invites from those with long friends lists and have it in the profile funny but it dont seem to make a difference. We like to think that anyone we are friends with we will meet

Well when we first started on here we would use the friends tool as in invitation to become just that...
If someone accepted our friend invite we would send them a message and go from there.
Problem is many people would accpet your friends invite - then not reply to your message!! WTF is that all about??
BTW we have always had private pics so it was a fair swoop on that account!
We thought an invitation to be friends and to share something (private pics) was a nice easy ice breaker - have a look at us - we will look at you everybody happy - few messages - off we go!
At that point we thought we might get a reply to a message if we were already "friends" - HA!!!
So there can be an inoccent approach behind it to.

We have a standard message to copy and paste to all who invite us as friends that we do not immediately recognise (unfortunately you cant always recognise friends from profile pictures or descriptions)
quote
"Hiya, we have recieved a friends invite from you but to our knowledge we have never spoken in chat, never met and never corresponded by mail so we realised it must have been sent to us in error and therefore wanted to let you know so you could send the invite to whichever person it should have gone to.
Hope this helps
Sasha and Jed"

We normally get no response or an apology and thanks for letting them know, only one has ever admitted to being a "pic browser" and they had over 1000 friends on thier list
Occasionally some do say they wanted to become friends but our profile clearly points out that we only add people to our list that we have met in person |

When we first joined we had to accept a friends invite from a couple beacause that was the only way we could view a face pic of the male half of the couple. It was the one and only pic of him on there profile there were loads of pics of her.We also have been guilty of sending friends invites without messaging first but ,that was when we first joined and did not know better but we send a message first now to say we like your profile then see how we get along. |
