Yeah I used to message first but then I started winking because if they like my profile they’ll like me and it’s just quicker for both sides |

If I see a profile that I like but the owner is a long way away, age range is out, they don't want a bi guy or single guy. Then I send a wink.
If it looks like I tick all of their boxes then I send a proper tailored message |

Really? I thought winks would be quicker and more efficient. Is there a reason why you don’t bother with them? |

I will always return a wink but have stopped using them - my experience here suggests that for most women here they are just so much fluff in already overloaded inboxes. If I've reaching out to somebody it will be a message. It gives a chance to give a sense of who I am, and shows I have given some thought to my communication. |

Finding that both seem to be just as futile… you wink someone, they wink back and leads to nothing. Or you wink, follow up their wink back with a message only for it to be left unread or opened and ignored.
Some also see a wink as an invitation to send an unsolicited friend request with chatting first which grinds my gears. |

What I do find strange is when ive received a wink I always reply back with a thank you for the wink and then something about there profile etc. Then see they have read message and don't hear anything else from them. |

Some people say sending a wink is lazy? I think it’s okay to send a wink! That way you’re saying I fancy you or I like what I see.
That way you’re not bomb barding people? I sent winks and messages it’s up to them how they respond positive I hope  |

It may be quicker, but its not efficient. Why are they winking? Want to chat? Compliment a photo? Agree with something on the profile?
At least a message could provide a clue, providing they aren't from the “hi” brigade.  |

We thought that was the etiquette at least. It's not like they can go 'we don't check our winks' if they actively use them! We know the first message can be difficult but we rather it wasn't avoided! |

Totally agree! We stand stubbornly firm on not messaging first if we didn’t send the first wink 😂 But we always do if we made the first move. |

I mainly wink because I rarely get a reply from either a wink or a message so winking is less time consuming to be ignored! I love to receive either and will always reply to a wink if it's of interest to me. |

I would say I tend to wink more than message not that I do a massive amount of either. As for recieving I'm happy with either one and will respond if I think we could have potential to go further be it chatting social etc |

I like to wink to show I’m interested in more, if I get one back I’ll happily send the first message. Other times, especially if the profile says winks ignored etc I’ll just jump in with a message |
