Dreading being 50

I'm 50 in about 6 weeks - dreading it. Wife who I love dearly struggling with menopause so not really getting any at home, almost got her into this a few years ago but a bad 1st experience put her off hoping she will try again on my birthday cruise. Hard to get meets off here compared to what it used to be. I still have a high sex drive l don't want to waste it l feel like my life is older then my body

What exactly are you dreading about it?

Thee situation with your wife is separate from your fears of being older I guess

I was 50 last year and in the 3 months leading up to my birthday I lost my brother to suicide, split with my partner, and list my job.

Suffice it to say my birthday came and went without any fanfare. But my plan is to have a big 51st blowout.

Aside from anything else, it's just a number.

I turned 50 in December OP.

I’m single so I’m not getting much sex anyway ( I am going through the menopause etc so not looking).

Apart from thinking about the 90’s a lot, it’s been ok.

I'm you you will look great when you are 90, and no week off each month.

We didn't start swinging until our 50s but everyone is different.

I reach the big 50 in only a few weeks. I must admit that my last 12 months on here has been very quiet compared to several years prior and different profiles, that said, what I seek now is like Marmite, so maybe unfair to judge properly.

"I'm 50 in about 6 weeks - dreading it."

I get where you are, I found turning 50 hard too (definitely a 'midlife crisis' time for me). Ironically turning 60, caused me none of the angst I felt then; Go figure why that was (perhaps I've finally grown up at last!).

What's very out of kilter in these parts (certainly from what I've seen in the limited time I've been hanging out here), is that many seem to simply write off those of us past say 45, as being too 'old' (way worse for my age group than yours tho). I also regularly find profiles in their 50s excluding those in their 60s.

I guess that (sadly) just reflects life. The older you are, the more 'invisible' you become to society in general, irrespective of how capable you still are individually.

The irony here is, like you I'm guessing, I really don't feel much different to how I did in my 30s; I certainly look/act younger than my age, I've got a great life/job, I'm still very sexually active (given the chance!) yadda yadda, yet at least half of the profiles here, simply won't consider me 'viable' to even contact them anymore.

It's just a number people!

"Make hay while the sun shines." for sure.

I think it's natural to feel a bit of uncertainty about growing older.

At 68 I approach 70 with some trepidation. However what's to be done? We can't reverse our age and time spent regretting advancing years is pointless really.

My dad who will soon be 98 says "you have to live until you die" and if you really think about what that means, he's right.

Wherever I lay my hat

You are no different to what you were at 49 years and 364 days. Life is what you make it. I grabbed the bull by the horns at 50 as I was increasingly aware that life is short and I needed to make the most of it. I've met some amazing people as a result - including in their 60s, 70s and 80s - and stopped thinking about my age

I dreaded turning 50 until I actually turned 50. It was amazing how my insecurities and head trash just seemed to sort themselves out on turning five o.

I’m happier on my own skin than I’ve ever been.

I think your profile is one of the best here _ornycouga (I've admired the honesty and humour of it several times - let alone the content!), but you do have a cut-off @ 55.

Just sayin!

Never understood this fear of ageing ... It's what happens to all living beings.

Why worry,we can't turn the clock back, hard as some try.

Just enjoy who and what you are ...

Oh I know what you mean. Unfortunately we have to accept that our situations do count against us in the eyes of many here. But don't give up hope

Op, I'll be blunt

I saw a thread from you the other day, offering pics of your wife out. You were quite put out when people tried to tell you not to do this.

So if I saw it, others will have seen it too.

If you can't live without sex and your wife doesn't want to swing, you need to have an open conversation and try and see if there can be any sort of compromise to be made.

50 is nothing, I hit it last summer. It's no different to being 49, if you want to change your life, there's only you that can do this.

Don’t get me wrong I have been through a couple years of hell with the menopause but once you push in through it’s the best !!
