More sex up north ?

I’ve been thinking this for a while, when I look at and post on forums I think there is more fun up north!

I’m based in the South East - and just find there appears to be less open chat and engagement than the more northern people

As for what I’m calling more north … I’m thinking Midlands onwards and south is more London based

Technically I know that is not correct … but

No, I think you might be onto something. Northeast has an active swing scene, so does Yorkshire, and the northwest is a lot of fun. Brum isn’t dull either.

The way it was explained to me by kink friends is that a few of the local councils, particularly the seaside towns, were extremely strict because they wanted the family friendly image, and so a lot of the alternative subcultures struggled to develop. Industrial towns have never had that pressure in the same way

This actually makes sense ….. less hang ups

And when I’ve been staying more north I find much more engaging chat and meets

So I just don’t think it is me - I should move !

I live in Devon and there is not much of a swinging scenes down here. The only club in the area is likely to close soon.

Like to think the South West is pretty lively but there’s a quality vs quantity thing going on down here too. Not that the quality in the “North” is at all poor from what I’ve seen on here!

the simple answer is there is always more going on in cities where you are less likely to bump into people you know

Having lived in the south east for the last 4 years and now being midlands, there's absolutely more fun up north. More clubs too. There's 3 in decent distance and more of I fancy a bit of a drive, like townhouse across the Wirral. Or xtasia in west brom.

South is very much lacking and severely spread out

Up here in the north it is often colder so we need more "exercise" to keep each other warm.

We have always had plenty of fun in the North, but it’s definitely quietened down since COVID. It seems everywhere is the same.

So it’s not just me then - lots of solid facts

Supporting my theory !

Now I know why I get a fair bit of interest from up north and not much from down souf !

"No I don’t think so. There seems to be something about Peterborough in my experience. Come across more from there than would expect "

I agree with you- I’ve met two couples there in the past and there is a range of ages involved in the scene it seems.

I think it’s quite central so people will travel to get there. It’s easy to get to from Lincoln, Leicester, Milton Keynes, Bedford, Cambridge and Kings Lynn. That’s an active catchment area…… and trains pass though North and Southbound plus the A1 and A47 are right there……

I must admit though I’m not an admirer of the town itself……..

Never managed to meet anyone from Southend -.even though it looked a very active scene. Actually that has been true for me about most of the Essex scene……… don’t know why, maybe people think I won’t travel - dunno ! 🙃

"The Thames Valley area definitely seems less fun than up north! "

I quite often work in Thames Valley area and I have found this to be the case.

There is some fun if you go out as far as Swindon but even then not as much as you’d expect…..

The other thing is look at this thread, more people from the north than south chatting and those from the south agreeing ….

Here I was hoping to start a revolution and be inundated with offers from the south proving me wrong 🤣

Except I’ve had more private chat from those up north !

the swinging scene in the southwest is alive and well we've been on it 30+++ years and never had problem looking for fun there was no internet for all back then dogging was big as well as private parties and where most swingers were no clubs down here one opened up in the west midlands that we would travel to ...

so i dont get this north / south divide when it comes to swinginghowever i do get the london / rest of uk divide ..

we are regular players always have at least a couple times a week

Cheshire area has given me a lot of nice memories, but nothing down south. I have family down south, so I tend to avoid, and I have better flight connections to Manchester. So I think it's more about choosing than any North/South divide.

We think the southwest is very quiet compared to the north.

We love going to Blackpool.

It's fun.

Up here in Cumbria there's not so much to do , so we entertain ourselves and include others, so there may be fewer of us up here but we do enjoy ourselves

Think clubs have a lot to do with the perception. The most popular clubs appear to be Midlands and North, we certainly travel to attend some of them.

I get the impression that people are friendlier and more laid back up north, rather than in the over-pressurised, stressed-out south

As someone who works all over the UK (have done for years), and who has visited clubs while away (and wekwnds) as well as arranging meets. These is no difference between North and South. Its the same with the misconception about the North being friendlier, its not something I have experienced, and I spent a lot of time in London
