Does having a public event guest list make any difference to your attendance?

Some events list their guest lists in advance and some don't, so we were wondering peoples opinions for and against.

I like a public guest list in general. Good to get an idea of how busy the night will be and if there are any particular groups or individuals of interest going.

There are also times when I haven't wanted my whereabouts publicly posted, and most places have been okay with not putting my name on the public list but still being on the guestlist when circumstances were explained.
