I think someone's profile can be as long or short, as detailed or plain, as they want it to be.
However I tend to glaze over reading the long ones, so I move on. |

To a degree I believe that like attracts like. So if their profile bores you then it's arguably an effective filter as you are unlikely to be what they are looking for either. |

Same here...look at mine and try to think how to take some out but struggle to think what to take out because it's all relevant to me. I know some have bullet points rather than paragraphs but to me that feels a bit too cold and demanding. Can be hard to strike a balance sometimes I guess, but so far it hasn't hindered me too much

I have had a shorter profile before but then I had so many messages asking if I will meet them at a hotel or will I accept a friends request.....so decided to write it in my profile instead. I also point out I have little free time etc.
It makes my profile longer but saves me having to reply to the questions when asked a hundred times. It wastes my time if not having it on x |

At the end of the day, no matter how long or how short a profile is, it boils down to if there is an attraction or not. Can have the best profile in the world, but if no one finds you attractive it makes no odds.
If you like the loom of someone then you are more likely to read all of their profile !!!!!! |

Outlining what you're like and look for saves the tedious text tennis. It's lazy not reading someone's profile if you make time to be on the site or the forums. Assuming you use the site with a _iew to meeting people, some dont. |

"A truly great profile should be accompanied by a nice cup of tea and some biscuits."
At over 2100 words long I must have the longest profile on Fab, I even mention the tea and biscuits. But it has supplied me with loads of meets and nearly 50 verie's so I must be doing something right. Maybe I miss out on the guys with the attention span of a goldfish but I do occasionally get the message; "So what are you into".

thats is sometimes true - least we know those types aren't for us - call it pre (non) qualifying themselves.
Although managed to shorten it a bit today - it does work (for us anyway) to find others more like us. |

I dont think there is a right or wrong really - just a good or a not so good match. Personally, I enjoy a profile that gives me a flavour of the person and a one liner does not do that. I like to get to know somebody a bit before I decide to meet and I really dont meet quickly.
Other people prefer to go by pictures and to meet within days. Each to their own I think. |

The only large profiles I will read over are the angry womens that have rants all over them in CAPS LOCK!!! screamin about men never taking notice. I find them amusing.
But although I say I read them, I never actually pay attention because screaming paragraphs of hate aren't exactly productive or memorable for that matter.
I just imagine some pissed d up bird screamin away to the theme tune to the Magic Roundabout and then that's usually more entertaining than whatever rage virus she's offering to share with us!

Me, too. Mine is quite long (actually mine IS TOO long) but then I am not interested in meeting people who are not into reading profiles. So it does really act as a good filter as said above! |

Very amusing. I exchanged a few emails with one of these women, naively suggesting we could have sex and some intelligent conversation. All her replies were sarcastic (I kept mine polite)and in the final exchange I suggested she try using her energy in a more constructive manner, which lead to an abusive reply and her blocking me. |

Well kudos to you for having the courage to get that far sir lol I on the other hand usually get blocked after, 'Hi, I'm Dan, how are you? I like what you wrote about yourself in your profile!' hahaha

There are two basic rules to selling (and your profile IS a selling tool, whether you like that idea of not) which say.... "People buy People first" and... "People buy People like them".
If you find a long profile, a ranty profile or - dare one say it - any profile does nothing for you, then it's a pretty good bet that the person or people behind it may well produce the same reaction from you should you meet them... |

Our profile has switched between long, short and everything in between. We've found it makes virtually no difference to the quantity or quality of the contacts we receive, so these days we keep it short. Good profile pics, on the other hand, seem to make all the difference. |

I love seeing those, usually very long, profiles that spend 80% of the space WRITING IN CAPITAL LETTERS ABOUT THE MINDLESS MORONS WHO READ THE PROFILE [that means you folks] and then tell you to "DO THIS, AND THAT, AND THE OTHER, OR YOU WILL BE BLOCKED!!!"
These seem to me to be aggressive, arrogant, dictatorial and frequently insulting to large sections of the community, usually single men.
Doe anyone want to be intimate with people like that?

The length pf a profile doesn't put me off at all, so long as the it gives insight into the profile holder and what makes their naughty mind tick! My own profile, while nowhere near a long one isn't exactly short....
However long profiles that are full of nothing but ranty bile in CAPS followed by the full 3 paragraph legal bollocks and that huge picture of a naked lass made of text make me think, "can't be arsed".....

I want ALL my meets to b something REALLY special particularly as I'm not looking for ''conventional 'bonks ' n therefore I pretty much have to spell out what I am interested in!
Altho it involves me having a long profile at least it cuts down on endless ping pong establishing what activities people want to engage in
I enjoy reading a well filled profile because it gives u some kind of idea about the person.
Those profiles with monosyllabic answers to the moot points I just zoom past
But I guess it's each to their own |

The length of my profile is directly in proportion to the length of my......no...hang on......must be cold today!
I like profiles for what they are and what they portray - rather than stressing over a word count! It's quality over quantity and i can be amused and intrigued by a relatively short piece of text as often as a long set of prose. There's no hard and fast rule - and why should there be?
Golden rule of Fab - it's your profile - do with it what you will - and that goes for size, pic content, preferences and interests. If whatever you've written works for you, suits your wants and gets the interest you seek - happy days!
If not - there's only one person to blame (or two if a couple, obviously!!) - and it's never the _iewer of the profile! |

I don't think it's the length that's the problem (and I never thought I'd say that, either ). It's that in general, people have no idea how to write for the web.
There's a lot of help out there online, but in simple terms:
1. Write so people can scan quickly and pick up the main points
2. Headings are your friend. Make them descriptive, but short
3. Paragraphs are good, but need to be short(-ish). Long paragraphs of unbroken text make people's eyes glaze over
4. But the most important stuff at the top, then go into detail afterwards.
5. Try fitting your text into a hierarchy of information.
Look at any online news article for good examples -- the headline tells you the whole story in a single sentence, the first paragraph gives you some of the most important detail, and the rest fleshes out the story. |

I'd rather there was something to read so you know what their after, then you don't have to waste your time messaging someone that you've got no hope with
But at the same time some do waffle on some rubbish, and do dislike the little tests at the end |

End of the day people are free to put as much or as little as they want
if your genuinely interested your going to read through a long profile
It can be as long as you like, it's still never gonna stop someone glancing at your pic, seeing online or meet today and still messaging you with hi, fancy a fuck |
