Mrs here.

In the words of the legend that is Weller "I'm still a Mod, I'll always be a Mod , you can bury me a Mod" this rings very true to me , I love the whole sub culture thing & don't really fit into any box but love how they're all connected, I don't know if that makes sense but it does in my head.

Anyway what I was trying to say in a very arse about tit way is that I love Ska, I have have a really cool Skin girl tattooed on my arm.

54 / 46 is well up on my list

Love all of that old ska Return of Django or Ali Baba - John Holt etc with some roots thrown in Jah Shaka, Augustus Pablo for good measure.

Being born in the early 60s I feel privileged to have grown up then. I had parents who loved 50s and 60s music so that rubbed off. At primary school it was glam which was great but on Hearing The Clash then The Sex Pistols I knew I found my music. Which I love to this day but late 70s you had Two Tone which was brilliant. Also a lot of new wave was fantastic, disco too and as the early 80s came electronic music and of NWOHMB. Those were brilliant years

Hey you, don't watch that, watch this

This is the heavy heavy monster sound

The nuttiest sound around

So if you've come in off the street

And you're beginning to feel the heat

Well, listen buster

You better start to move your feet

To the rockinest, rock-steady beat

Of madness

One step beyond

Lip up fatty, ah lip up fatty, for the reggae

Moving with the rhythm, sweating with the heat

Moving with the rhythm of the fatty beat

Lip up fatty, ah lip up fatty, for the reggae

Lip up fatty, ah lip up fatty, for the reggae

Listen to the music, shuffle up your feet

Listen to the music of the fatty beat

Lip up fatty, ah lip up fatty, for the reggae

Lip up fatty, ah lip up fatty, for the reggae

Lip up fatty, ah lip up fatty, for the reggae

Trumpet

Lip up fatty, ah lip up fatty, for the reggae

I could reply positively to practically every post on here. I have watched, met, or known many of the bands discussed. There is even a reference to a book that I mentioned in.

Coventry

Yes, us. I Mr, grew up in Coventry in the shadow of 2-tone. So it's always been there in life as it is for many of us who grew up in Cov (especially in certain areas). None of us are exactly punks or skinheads or rude boys/girls. We're defiantly not all out fashion wise although elements are there and we like other music too. We are misfits, we've never neatly fitted in anywhere including any subculture. However this music and culture is big part of our life.

I remember early on when getting to know each introducing Mrs Misfit to the Pie Tasters. It was really a unexpected surprise and pleasure when Mrs Misfit then revealed she liked this and she likes these genres of music too. Over the years we where able to introduce each other to new bands and exchange music. Together we have a wide intrest in punk, ska and Regeae across the scale and generations. I would say Mrs Misfit falls more on the reggae side of the scale and myself the Punk side. We complement each other nicely.

Myself as a kind No Doubt Tragic Kingdom was released. That cassette was the first album I bought and was sort of a gateway drug that lead me down the rabbit hole. I didn't follow in such circles so it was a rabbit hole I went down alone (being a misfit) away from the mainstream. I started to explore so many great bands and become addicted to the infectious beat of Ska. As I got older I discovered a music label called Do The Dog Music. The Internet and YouTube still wasn't big and their skazine and complication CD were my eyes and ears for a lot of new music and bands that I love. Then as time when on the Internet opened the world of music and bands across the globe wide and open to me.

It's really hard to pin down a favorite. Infact I'm not going to. However the song Biblical Sense by The Pietasters is the song Mrs Misfit always says reminds her of me. She says that's my song and loves to se me dance care free away to it.
