Can anyone explain to me what the purpose is of a message that just says hi  and then like one or two word reply’s, I know some people don’t know what to say but it comes across odd to me any one else |

I really struggle with it like I don’t wanna come across as rude but it just comes across like they have the personality of a wet mop which I’m sure they don’t but like I can’t start a conversation with someone from just hi  |

exactly this don’t get me wrong I’m not the best with knowing what to say all the time but if I don’t know what to say I often just drop a fab or a wink lol |

Well, I tend to look at their profile and, potentially, answer 'Hi'.
I see it like being in a club and someone walks up and says 'Hi'. Just can't see the person saying it.
Of course I prefer a proper conversation, but it is a start. |

I don't know. I would imagine it's bc many people don't look at winks. It could be a way to highlight interest without spending ages fashioning a message that'll likely get unread/ deleted?
I get that it isn't particularly inspiring but I can also imagine spending ages writing messages that are never read is very disheartening too.

see I’ve tried replying hi back to see if that initiates conversation and a lot of the time you get nothing or very little back, occasionally a how’s you I just find it all a bit strained |

Yes I got that a fair bit, before i made my profile private. I think some don't know what to say, some just want to say hi and some are just kind of going in a bit defeatist ie I'm unlikely to get a reply, so can't be arsed doing a long msg, I'll just do this.

Hell yes odder than an odd thing that is odd in my humble opinion.
I reply to all messages so a “Hi” message gets a Hi reply simple as.
I’m sure that it works for some but for us it’s as useless as a wink but each to their own.

Think its used as a trawl.
Its easy to type "Hi" lots of times on different profiles than to put a longer message on a few.
Wait for a response and then go from there.
Lazy really.

I had a message recently "Hey how are you?"
My reply "I'm okay. How are you?" To be polite and keep the exchange going.
His reply "I'm good. How are you?"
I find it very difficult to have a conversation when the other person just repeats themselves. |

Hi isn’t odd….its merely a greeting that can spark a conversation.
Being inspired comes both ways in my opinion….like how the fuck do you get inspired by a profile that just says ‘X’ or ‘Will fill in later’ and just have tit pics or is full of the ‘Do not do this’ and ‘Do not do that’ wording.
I don’t send a ‘hi’ message but I find that conscripting a well worded opening message that shows I’ve read their profile means absolutely nothing if the recipient doesn’t like the look of me from a picture. |

No the hi alone isn’t odd but it normally comes from an empty profile no pics or bio or like you say very little which leaves me with not a lot to type back like maybe hi how are you then they don’t reply now that’s the bits I find odd
