Have a good profile with good pics.
Send polite decent messages.
Read people’s profiles before you message.
Go to your local club if you have one, don’t go with the expectation of playing. Be polite dress well and socialise there and you should gain some verifications so people know you’re genuine.
Get involved on forums on here.
Put the effort in and you will be noticed, if you don’t you won’t stand out from the crowd.

Get involved here, and... clubs. It's maybe not the easy answer, but it's certainly the easiest way to meet people. You are maybe already at an advantage in terms of starting a conversation online, the manly rugby player look is likely to attract some I suspect, versus someone who is (for want of a better word) average or forgettable. Women here get hundreds of messages, so unless you really stand out, then even managing to start a conversation doesn't mean it'll go there. You go to bed, she gets 397 other messages, you end up way down her inbox and forgotten the day after.
Going to clubs increases the chances of a) meeting someone and b) playing with someone, as everyone is there and (generally speaking) looking to play there and then. There's no back and forth, trying to arrange a meet, hoping the other is genuine, and so on... |

Don't rusk it, don't give up. I've been on here about 10 months and have had a great time, and I am old and unattractive!! Key for me was clubs (they do work, but don't be creepy - don't follow folk around!) and a brilliant social in my city - the socials are dressed and no play but a great way to meet people in a friendly, fun way that then develops into play.... |
