JUST FOR FUN POST- ‘Sneaking’ people in to Hotels
Jump to: Newest in thread
Hi all
Just a bit of fun this. Thought we’d ask you for any funny stories, tips, recommendations etc for when you’ve booked in to a hotel and had an easy time of inviting guests or conversely, had a difficult time.
A couple of ours are:
If you’ve ever been out on a Saturday night in Newcastle town centre, you will know how crazy it is. We booked into a hotel a couple of years ago with the intension of some other people joining us for ‘fun’ later on in the evening. So, we got back to the hotel at around 9 pm with every intention of going on fab and liaising with our guests for some company. However, the doorman at the hotel was obviously a body guard for the royals at one time because there was no way it was going to be possible. To say he was on the ball is an understatement. He had a clipboard with every guest name, every room number, how many in a room etc. Every guest had to queue up outside and pass his ‘vetting’ just to get back into their own hotel. He insisted on checking key cards and then went down the list to check everything was in order. Then he allowed us in. Lol. It was fair to say there was no way we, or anybody else would be inviting guests to that hotel that night
Another time, at a huge hotel in London, it was the same story. Guy on the door checking cards etc. However, there was a fire escape next to the lifts that went down to a door at the side of the entrance. As long as you had a valid key card you could easily cum and go through that entrance with the security guard none the wiser.
Anybody got any other hotel stories (good or bad) regarding inviting ‘guests’ to your room?

We've never met anyone in an hotel but nearly all the hotels we've stayed in it would have been really easy to have a drink at the bar and just go up to our room.
It might have been a bit more difficult if it was a whole rugby team |

Two hotel meets for us one the guy on the desk refused us to go up threatening to call the police we just ignored him and went anyway…police never came (premier inn)
Another we met a guy in the bar for a few drinks and just walked up unquestioned (holiday inn)
I think maybe the company may differ on stances |

"Can hotels restrict who you have in your room if they aren't actually spending the night? We've taken friends and family up to our room quite often "
I'm guessing that they could quote fire and safety regulations as reasons to restrict extra guests. |

That's true. I guess the public areas are insured for a certain number of people and in the event of a fire they'd assume the rooms only had residents in them |

Also think party night in Newcastle a bit different to midweek in a conference venue.
If only people listed in the rooms are in the room only they can have caused damage etc. |

Very true
Midweek at a conference venue means you just go to each others rooms. Or so I've been told |
