Is age just a number?
Jump to: Newest in thread
It comes down to personal preference. To be honest, I'm not super into anyone more than 10 years older than me.
I would never say never as there may be the odd guy that I meet and vibe with really well, but I wouldn't ever really reach out to anyone much older, it's just not my preference.
Plenty of people who do like an older gent though, not to mention a huge age range on this site so I'm sure age doesn't prevent you! |

Age is just a number but it almost always determines how someone looks... I like faces that are prettier than mine so 99% of guys anywhere near my age or older are not for me... Plus, the older guys I have been in contact with... I wasn't a massive fan of their attitudes either so... |

For me it is juts a number, that said I appreciate others reasons for not meeting extremes in either direction such as those young enough to be their children or vice versa those old enough to be your parents. At the end of the day we have our tastes and that is it. No point trying to convince someone of something they are not into. I feel age is one of those buckets. |

"I'm a 58 yr old mature guy, I'm gym fit, young outlook, dress fashionable and generally a nice friendly guy I've also been told I don't look my age
So why does my age put some people off?"
.
Try visiting clubs, people there pay less attention to your age than they do to how they get on with you as a person
.
It works the other way too though,
and it's fair enough to be looking for people of similar age to your yourselves |

People are entitled to seek what ever they want, if they attached search parameters to their searches that's their call. wether thats age, gender, colour , thats their call, for me age is just a number it has little bearing on the pleasure you may find |

You look your age from your pics. Age isn’t just a number but that said anyone over 35 wants it to go backwards. |

I've never understood the thinking behind these threads because I'm also 58 and since I joined here aged 52 I've never once had a conversation about my age and it has never prevented me from meeting lots of people.
It only seems to be an issues for those who make it one.
I've never believed in the "age is just a number" crap either because it's not. It's a fact.
I don't look my age, I don't act my age but regardless I'm still 58 at the end of the day. |

Not sure anyone matures mentally past age of 25, and then when you are overtaken by whippersnappers on a mountain hike, or people swerve when you head to the mosh pit at the gig, or wonder why every joint aches the morning after a night on the tiles.
You realise your mind sometimes writes cheques that your body cannot cash.
That said the easiest place to meet people where age is not a number is out at a club. People will talk to you if they fancy you, and likely won’t care about your age. |

Because age isn't just a number. It doesn't matter whether someone looks their age or how they dress they've still been alive since the date on their birth certificate. That means they'll have cultural references, experiences and probably attitudes that a lot of younger or older people won't have. That doesn't matter in a social setting but when it comes to sex people have various preferences and if an age range is included in that there's not much any of us can do about it.
At 67 and 66 the number of people interested in us is very limited and we're ok with that |

"Hugely subjective.
To me, age is a measure of time spent on the planet and not much more.
If we appeal to one another and our attitudes align, age is not a barrier. "
Exactly. People either want to meet others of a certain age or they don't. There's plenty of all age preferences on here and I'm always pleasantly surprised at the number who like to meet older people. |

OP - if you do look younger then you are best going to a club as no one will ask your age.
The irony is an in shape 58 year old could look better than an out of shape 45 year old but everyone has a view of what a particular age looks like when in reality it varies depending on the individual and lifestyle/genetics.

Spot on. I’m 54. Fitter than some 30 year olds but not to everyone’s taste.

Also from experience writing as the male half of this couple who enjoys a few bars of chocolate now and again, I was surprised how many women prefer the slightly out of shape guy compared to the gym fit bod I was surprised by some of the women who matched me on those vanilla dating apps.
When I asked them why as slimmer/fitter people they were interested in slightly out of shape me, it seemed the perception of a guy with a gym fit bod is that from experience they were a little too self obsessed. |
