That’s a good question. Threads like this tend to show up that it’s different for everyone.
For me, I add someone if I want their photos and updates to show up in my hotlist feed. A bit like following someone on social media. I want to see the stuff you post.
There’s all sorts of reasons I might want that. Maybe you post gorgeous photos. Maybe your status updates make me smile. Maybe I fancy you. Maybe, maybe, maybe …  |

So many possibilities but a surmounting attraction one way or another. Desirability for more whether it be photos, smiles… |

For sure. The more you see someone, the more you talk, the more likely you are to feel some attraction. To let it build. Savour it.
The forums let me get a feel for people. Personalities. Likes and dislikes. Sense of humour. Sensuality, too - it’s often in the way you write after all.
The hotlist lets me keep an eye on their pictures.
Both together is quite a lot go on, really. It works. |

So, in short increasing desirability.
Whilst I hear you, it does also seem very single directional. I feel that’s where forums may be disadvantageous. Everyone doesn’t interpret continual interactions the same way. Some may see them as harmless friendly interactions capable of being had with anyone and everyone, others may think only those whom one is keen to get to know is whom one should pay attention to, and loads of in between views too, I’m sure.
Sometimes forums are brilliant though.
They allow people who may otherwise not have come across one another to cross paths innocently. Made only better when those paths cross outside the forums, and a fire is ignited. I reckon many are seeking this same thing, but bidirectionality in this is difficult. Starting a fire, a tough skill by most accounts is difficult enough. But stroking it, keeping it going, and making the fire smouldering hot over and over again is the next level and can be even more difficult. Those who find that are lucky bastards! I do like a burning hot fire in the autumn. Especially when it was first lit on a cool late summer night, and pushed forward into autumn. Propelled mikes ahead blazing hot with passion, desirability, and hunger. One can only hope to keep stroking it into winter when it’s that good a fire.
A bit perplexing I’m sure but I’m also confident there is someone who will understand my allegory.  |
