Jump to: Newest in thread

"Just say you are exposed to bisexual playmates and you will get it. Or just goto a gay / sex worker focus clinic to get it "
Why lie to the health professionals and take tax payers money by deception, why not just play safe?
From what I’ve just read it cost the NHS £4-5k a year for PrEP, I don’t think I’m being too mean by saying ‘bag up’ if you want to remain safe?
Why should someone else pay for your risky sex? I’d rather my tax was spent on other needier causes tbh. |

I never even knew what that is until now. Would you take that everytime before you go to a club or meet? Or how does that work? Also I think it's ridiculous that they decline you for it when you try to be sexually cautious. |

You do realise that condoms are not 100% effective don't you? |

Yes I do, they are around 90% whereas PrEP is 99% effective against HIV. However, even as an occasional swinger myself, I just don’t believe the tax payer should fork out £4/5k a year for someone else’s lifestyle choice. Nothing personal, just my opinion. |

It's not like you volunteer to give tax, it's taken from you and that's what annoys me, I don't really care what they do with it I'm just pissed off that someone felt entitled to take money that I worked for in the first place, it's theft |

And how much do you think it costs "the tax payer" when people are diagnosed with HIV? |

It's all down to evidence based practice. I've had this discussion with the sexual health team, and there simply is no evidence that PrEP can prevent HIV in heterosexual sexual interactions. Logic would dictate it does, but the evidence simply isn't there.
The evidence base is all based around homosexual/bisexual men, for which there is good evidence that it can prevent infection. Highest risk of infection is for a bottom male.
There are also significant risks of impairment in kidney/liver function when on PrEP, especially on daily dosage, so it wouldn't routinely be prescribed unless the benefits outweighed the risks. My figures were slightly down on my test a week or two ago, and I have a good baseline historically, although in discussion we think it was down to dehydration as I'd gone straight to the appointment from a hard gym session. I'm on event based dosage. They will repeat my test at the next 3 monthly appointment.
It's all about patient safety.
Yes, as the sexual health consultant said to me, it's a game changer, and for the appropriate patients, the costs are less than the costs both financially and sociologically of someone catching HIV, but it's still not for everyone.
Gonorrhea and syphilis cases are on the increase at the moment again, PrEP does nothing for those, but a condom can.
Its great that you are talking to the sexual health teams about it, and being honest with them. They are completely non-judgemental, understand peoples lifestyles, and will give you the best advice they can to remain safe, whilst also enjoying the lifestyle.
Read up some more around the subject, keep getting tested. Enjoy life, stay safe. |

"If this Drug is being given to LGBT community. Why not all sundry.? "
Read the post before yours (which agrees with what I've been told at the sexual health clinic when I have my regular tests and collect my PREP) and you'll see why it isn't given more widely. |

"Also not available in most chemist except lloyds pharmacy"
Clearly you didn't read my post as Andy suggested above.
If it is appropriate for a patient, it will be issued directly by the sexual health teams, as part of the 3 monthly monitoring process.
It will never ever be an over the counter (OTC, of GSL), a Pharmacy ISSUE (P), nor a Prescription only Medication (POM) issued by a remote online Doctor. There is no need for any pharmacy other than the wholesalers supplying to the sexual health clinics to hold a stock. If you have evidence it is being issued like this, then I'd suggest you rapidly report it to the GMC or HCPC so that those responsible can have their registrations and fitness to practice licences reviewed and withdrawn as they are clearly not acting in the patients best interests. |

Last time we went for a checkup, we were offered (and took) monkeypox vaccine and prep for us both for "event" usage.
We don't play bare, and don't always play full, but just in case.
We are both bi and like bi people which may be the difference.
Got told just call up once we've run out - but did joke they'll last us ages lol - not out of choice
That, plus previous HEP A/B vaccines (saved us buying them for Asian travel!) - and anti body tests, plus the usual screening, plus a goody/party bag on the way out, plus lovely staff you can be open and laugh about stories along the way.....
Absolute bargain and excellent proactive service.
Always had all clear texts |

"Swinging isn't a sexual orientation I think being non monogamous is not just a choice
Come on lad ... humans have been coupling up since the flintstones times. You are on yourself "
Lady thanks. And actually we didn't used to couple up, women would have more than one partner, non monogamy is more a human trait than one partner |

I think our sexual and mating behaviour is very much influenced by factors in the society we live in |

It just goes to show the every area has different policies, as I was given PreP DRUG at my local clinic and they do regular checks for any signs of side effects as it can affect the kidneys.
As far as I am concerned most people don't use condoms when doing oral so can still pass on STDs and if it adds an extra layer of the protection then I am all for it. |

Google it and look on NHS website or prep PDF, too many caveats to post
Simply, for guys, 2 pills 2-24hrs or more before party, then pill a day for 2 days after.
Women is different. |
