Rest the said muscle as much as poss.
Alternate cold packs and heat packs on it - the heat will feel good but if the muscle is inflamed heat alone will make it worse.
Ibuprofen is good, take for no more than a week though, and if the pain is severe you can take a paracetamol based product too so long as there is no more ibuprofen in it. 8/500 co codamol is ok if paracetamol alone is no good.

you need rice.
That's R-I-C-E... or Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. So rest it as much as possible, ice it (for eg. bag of frozen peas) a couple of times a day, support it with a tight-ish bandage, and try to keep it raised when resting. Oh, and yes Vitamin I (ibuprofen) too |
