And clubs, how did new swingers actually get in to the lifestyle?
Was it just rumour that they followed, eg, such & such a pub is always full if swingers so we'll try there? Or was it some other way?
Just curious. |

Yes, I remember that. Very tortuous and long-winded but it did work occasionally. |

There used to be a group of swingers that went into my local pub and if they wanted to ‘recruit’ they would normally send one of the wives over to flirt etc lol. Everyone knew they were swingers so if interested you could go chat to them |

Well, in Paris what they call 'Exchangiste' clubs have been going for hundreds of years, and in the days pre-internet there were no such clubs in London, apart from Rios in London (where I had my first experience as a student in the early 90s). However, the clubs in Paris were packed with those Brits 'in the know'. Also, in those days loads of swinger-types hung around the naturist scene, with some naturist clubs holding 'extra special' nights for 'other things' (such as one in Kent). In addition, there was a well known 'health hydro' down in the sticks in Berkshire, frequented by numerous celebrities, (very expensive) membership of which gave you entry to 'Saturday night parties' that were virtually orgies. However, I only found out about this via a chat in Paris! There was also a very upmarket private 'naked spa' in Mayfair, that was essentially a private swingers club. I was told it had been going since the 1970s.... |

In the mid to late 90s even though the internet was a thing it spread the same way as all the illegal raves in warehouses, by word of mouth, chatting in dodgy unlicensed sex clubs, cheap flyers - text messages, BBS and ICQ were still pretty new |
