We have friends who are in a throuple and have been for quite some time, I guess the key to a poly relationship is getting the dynamic and boundaries to align perfectly, much like any other relationship I suppose.

I think as a long term concept it's difficult. Our eldest has had some experience of being in throuples. Personally we much prefer our love life to us and our sex life extended to others. From experience of poly people we know it's very rarely for keeps as more than a couple, difficult to ballance and full of obstacles. However maybe the idea of it working out if you mean long term is for many poly people the wrong idea anyway. The idea of for keeps or forever is not so prevalent I think. Its a bit more free flowing than that I think for many. |

Also there is middle ground between deep romantic love, close loving friendship and causal sex. So sometimes a three way friendship can fall somewhere in this ground. But wouldn't say having a close sexual friendship as a couple makes you a throuple to me a throuple is an equal 3 way relationship in terms of love and attachment to each other. |

I have a friend who was part of one (male with two females) which lasted 22 years.
It is interesting that when one of the women decided to leave the remaining couple decided to get married.
I guess we will never know what goes on behind those closed doors with feelings, emotions and changing dynamics of relationships, and it is impossible to generalise. |

"Do successful "throuples" i.e., a poly relationships exist? "
I know throuples that are exceptionally successful and some that have crashed and burned spectacularly.
But throuples are just one very small part of polyamoury and there are so many successful poly relationships. (I know, I'm poly haha) |
