Used to go regularly and helped host one for a number of years
Good way to meet like minded kink people and find out what's going
Need to go with open mind

I run a munch in Nottingham and help coordinate the kink night at the attic
I describe munches as social only events for making friends and networking
Your personal mileage might vary depending entirely on how you approach the event and each group will have a different atmosphere and crowd. So I always recommend trying as many groups and events as you can/want to
Mines smallish (10-20 people), quiet in environment because we have exclusive use of a small back room but depending on who attends, it's not normally quiet in volume because we're an excitable bunch

It wasn't for us to be fair. We kink of found the people there a bit dull. We ended up abandoning hope of finding freaks like us and made good freinds with the bar staff instead. Not saying every munch is like that, just our experience and why we've not been to another. |

Its a shame you feel put off by the one experience you've had
This is why I really encourage newbies to my events to try everything and anything they sensibly can
The social scene of bdsm is where I've met my last few partners, a good number of play partners and people from all different walks of life I never would have ordinarily
I'm biased, I've been going to munches and kink events for a decade.. I'm also an extrovert, I'll make friends with anyone so my experience might vary from others but I'd honestly recommend another try with a different group
