what do you think...??"
It's not a silly reason, it's our livelihood, the means to pay our bills and a career we've spent over 25 years building up as well as our professional credibility...but more importantly...it's our choice, in the same way that it's someone elses choice to do it...
we have face pictures that we share once we get to know people and are very sure we're not professionally connected but if they don't like it that they're not openly out there, we don't really care frankly...that's how we choose to manage our profile |

We do not show face pics to the open site as you get alot of people here in Guernsey join just to see if they can recognise anyone, but we do have face pics in the private folder.
There was a site a few year back called "visit Guernsey" it was a forum for people to get info, anyways people got chatting and someone happend to put a thread up saying have you seen how many swingers there are in Guernsey. and put up another well known site.
We where members and it was so funny as the guernsey population on that site trippled in that same night and all it was where people being nosey to see if they knew anyone.
A few did post up to say "eeee did not know they did that" etc
So sometimes there is a reason not to show face pics but others should be ok |

I have reasons:
1. There are crazy folks who may or may not be looking for me.
2. Completely separately, members of my immediate family will become relatively high profile in the next couple of months.
3. I prefer people to look at me rather than my face. |

All down to Personal choice! We swap face pics when we want and a meet maybe on the cards.

Because some of us work in the public sector and can be a bit tricky and also there are sometimes rules about using any social networking sites.

I've got a half face pic so I assume that makes me half silly. I have full face pics for friends and those I consider not to be timewasters and the reason is...because I can. I'm discreet with other people and discreet with myself. Anyway, maybe all the silouhette people are clones with identical hoods. |

Yes you can, many companies draw a clause into contracts saying that behaviour of social sites can lead to dismissal. It's a policy my company holds, which is why my face pics are kept private. |

Even if there is no such clause, an employer can probably dismiss you (fairly) for actions on such social sites. The clause in the contract just makes it easier and less risky for them. |

I mean "fairly" according the Employment Tribunals by the way - not my opinion of fairness (or the individual judges).

Yes I can, and I can also lose my professional registration...but just as importantly, the professional credibility that I have spent years building up could be completely ruined and undermined and this is not because I am in the slightest bit ashamed of what I choose to do with people in my private life but because of the short sighted attitudes of people outside of this lifestyle...this is a hobby, a past time that we occasionally indulge in but so not worth the risks of being exposed without being very sure who we are sharing our personal information with. it's the same reason that we do not meet people who live in the region that I work in...
We have pictures, as I stated, we are happy to share them once we are sure that we have no professional connection to anyone...if you don't like it, so be it...I don't care how stupid you think it is or we are... |

I put face pics on but only available to friends or through PM. Reason being, I dont want freaks getting wrong ideas if they come across in public and I dont know who they are. If people want to speak to me, then I will show them. Plus, I have seen people I know on this site through face pics and they would die (or silence me instead) if they knew I knew. Especially since one of them is "in the closet!" |

I agree. No I dont need to see your face pic on your profile but I would like a physical idea of the person before I contact them so I'm not wasting their time or mine. I therefore tend to skip profiles with no pics.
End of the day, you do need to be physically attracted to the person you potentially meet.  |

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but the fact is I'm expecting some (relatively minor) media interest in our family in the coming weeks/months and I'd prefer not to risk some hack finding a face pic of me on here and making it something it's not. |

Then you should have made that clear from the off..instead of mentioning 'silly reasons' for people not to put 'pictures' on here..you also said another posters answer was 'stupid'..when, in all fairness he was actually correct..
Ok...that said, I agree about people who dont have any photos whatsoever..unless they nick them from someone else you normally find their profiles are highly suspect as they never seem to have a verification either..
Of course a lot of genuine people don't have either as well..but they normally have more than 3 words in their profile and have been here longer than a week...
Not everyone with a pretty bare profile is a fake..not everyone with a full profile is genuine..but there's definitely a pattern when it comes to fakes.
Maybe they dont want photos on here anyway though..maybe they might prefer to send them via MSN/email.. once they get to know people better?...rather than run the risk of a hacker discovering them on here perhaps? |

I assumed they meant face pics also as it was mentioned they don't have pics due to jobs and such...and you wouldn't get in bother for a body pic so just assumed it meant face pics.
And this is classed as a social networking site as that is what most people use it for to chat to and meet other people. |

Any site involving friend request, messaging facilities and chat facilities is deemed a social media site.
With regards to pictures of any type, I have some on public,some in friends only and some in private. Any member can see my public pics , friends only can see my friends pics, no one can see or determine how many private pics I have unless I attach to a message.
So basically accusing people of having no pics at all is wrong, they could be set in private to attach to messages, you would never know by just looking at a profile as a facility is not available to tell you how many pictures a profile user has placed in their private gallery. |

I think they don't do it because there is no rule which says that they have to do so and also because it is their profile, therefore, in line with the site rules, they can do what they like with it |

Also just to mention on day 2 on the site when I uploaded pictures my messages dropped to around a 100 a day.
Going by my own personal facts that shows1 in 4 chance of profile being _iewed with pictures.

Me I think people should worry about their own profile and leave others to worry about theirs. I'm sick fed up of seeing threads about how others choose to run their profiles , if you don't like a profile move on to next there are plenty on here sure you will find someone who thinks same as you. |

He joined the site and would have been looking to meet, but that got overlooked due to the fact that he is male (and had no verifications!) and I am female with several...which were discussed at length I have been told by the only colleague who mentioned anything to my face about it. I think it was more expected/accepted for him than it was for me |

People have no pictures beacause they choose not to. Some reasons below.
Fear of employers, family or community seeing and then all the shit that follows.
To avoid becoming part of a picture collection for sad lonely singles
To control who sees pictures best they can, as fab and all sites are unable to copy protect when uploaded.
But mainly its their choice! |
