Think curvy applies to the typical hourglass shape, popular in the 50's. Boobs and bum with a definition in between for a waist. I used to be curvy before the kids.....now my curves have swapped places....lol. Same with BBW. Where does that begin and end??

Curvy comes in all sizes. It's about a difference in measurements between bust/waist/hips surely? For instance you could be the thinnest girl in the world but if your waist is way narrower than your hips and bust then you'll have curves but a big girl who has very little difference will just be big, not curvy.

That said my preference is for the plumper curvy girl.

Curvy is not a size its a shape.

If a woman has larger boobs, a smaller waist and then hips that are larger than the waist, she is curvy. An hourglass kind of shape.

now that lady may be a size 10 or she may be an 18.

Not all slim women are curvy, they may have boyish type figures with s¤all boobs and small hips, their shape may be a straight, I hate to say like a ruler, but that kind of thing, a stgraight shape, that is not curvy.

A bigger lady may also be straightish, boobs, waist, hips, all being a large straight shape, she is not curvy either.

A woman who has bigger boobs, smaller waist, bigger hips she is curvy, she could be any size

The most 'famous' hourglass shape was probably Marilyn, who was an American size 14, so a UK 16. So I've always taken curvy as 14-16 on here.

In the real world curvy would be any size where your bust and waist measured the same with a waist measurement that was smaller.

BBW is large, from 18 to 24 with SBBW starting at 26 upwards, which is what fabulous would be used for.

I personally think it's more helpful to have a body shape description rather than size, like curvy, apple, pear, top heavy, leggy, boyish etc.

Because the size someone is changes dependent on the height and frame.

I've always been big, always will and my frame carries weight well, making others often surprised by the size I am

I am curvy (even though I am fat) because I have a small waist, big boobs and a serious amount of junk in my trunk. Curvy isn't size it's a shape of a woman, it's an hourglass figure. Julie's curves and my curves are the same but in different proportions.

I agree with the above.

Curvy is not a size.

Curvy is a shape.

Those that confuse it with larger ladies are pushing curvy into the realms of euphemisms for fat.....

Size doesn't come into anything. Two women in size 12 dresses one can be stick thin and the other curvy.

Hate being asked my dress size. It means nothing and I feel like the person asking once auditioned for Silence of the Lambs.

It's easy to see how confusing the size categories are ... I always thought fabulous was someone who is overweight but is happy being that way and celebrates it - and that large (which I have on mine) was the biggest you could put to simply describe your size as a statement of fact but not your attitude towards that size (if that makes sense).

Fats fat no matter how you look at it. If you're slightly over the average weight for you're hieght then you're probably curvey, but when you are three, four or more stones beyond average then you're definitely fat. If you're fat you should be honest about it and stop with the " I'm average or curvey " shit. Admit to yourself you're fat and go do something about it. I don't believe for one minute that folk who say they're happy being fat are telling the truth. Its time people stopped lying to themselves and to others about body size.

Your choice of words ('chick' for example) suggests a less than healthy attitude to women. I may be wrong, but that is how I read it.

As for celebrities - they have both the time and money to hone their bodies. Most NORMAL, AVERAGE people do not.

Some people are very rude and maybe are total bumholes and possibly ugly.....but of course I would never say that cause it would be RUDE!!!

Omg.

Some opinions!

Maybe if fab put a clearer selection as in they choose what sizes are classed as slim athletic curvy and fat (to not use my words) then when I tick I am a size 16 clothes if it tells me I am curvy as I think fine......if it tells me I am fat then fine.

Should fab just do it by dress size for the ladies and waist size for men maybe.

That's so not true!! I wear size 10 jeans but have a classic hourglass shape so I am curvy (although I've not classed myself as that on here as I think it's too ambiguous a tag). I am not an attention seeker at all and just because I can fit in skinny girl jeans doesn't mean I'm skinny!

We'd go along with this, its more about shape rather than size.

Its down to the boobs and hips to waist differential.

Think '50's / '60's screen goddesses, Taylor, Monroe, Loren etc, that's what we think of as curvy.

Well I've been told a couple times this week that being the size I am, and on profile its fabulous, is just gross and not fabulous and if it wasn't for sites like this I would still be a virgin. So maybe in my case fabulous doesn't reach size 20.

I haven't read any of the other posts, but I'd say it doesn't come down to a womans size to determine a curvy figure, just their shape and form.

I agree curvy is the hour glass shape. I'm size 10-12 but I have hips which in turn means I have a decent size bum on me. But I have a small waist so go in quite a lot in proportion to my hips/boobs lol. Xx

The most 'famous' hourglass shape was probably Marilyn, who was an American size 14, so a UK 16. So I've always taken curvy as 14-16 on here.

"

Not in today's sizes she wasn't. Also the average size in the UK may be size 16/18 but that doesn't make it healthy.

Agree that it's a shape not a size - however wobbly is not curvy

Unfortunately though, some who describe themselves as curvy go further out in the middle than at the top or the bottom and that's where the confusion begins.

I don't think you can put a particular size on it, but my general opinion would be a typical description of any "hourglass" figure. - Bigger hips and breasts and a smaller waist. x

I agree with it having nothing to do with size, but don't think ANY hourglass figure would be described as curvy!

Simply having bigger tits and fatter arse than yer stomach don't make ye curvy...curvy bodies are still toned!

I'm pretty toned and would still say I'm curvy!! The only bit of me that doesn't have muscle tone is my boobs and I don't want muscles there - my 32GGs are enough! I have a good deal of muscle in my abs, arms, butt and legs though..... and even with that have an hourglass shape!

There is a difference between curvy as in womanly/shapely and how 'curvy' is generally used on here, which to be frank is often overweight.

That is perhaps why fitter/healthy women that do have curves might instead choose to describe themselves as average/slim.

Yep and my first post in this thread said " I wear size 10 jeans but have a classic hourglass shape so I am curvy (although I've not classed myself as that on here as I think it's too ambiguous a tag)"

Most of the people I've come cross on here who tag themselves as curvy are bigger/less toned than I am at the minute. So I wouldn't tag myself as curvy on here. I chose average because I was a 12 when we joined which to me is average, I'm not very body confident so don't yet feel comfy tagging myself as slim. To me average = nothing out of the ordinary and that's exactly what I want people who look at my profile to think of my body. There are pics they can look at if they want to judge for themselves.

Argh!!! This is another one! See, I think of "Rugby build" as tall, thick-set and generally built like a brick shit house whereas some guys I've seen come forward saying they're built like a rugby player are actually quite short and skinny, they just have muscles (which in my mind is "athletic", not rugby build...), or skinny built with excess weight...

I posted a topic about this subject. Like I said last time whenever someone was talking about curvy when I was growing up they were talking about the likes of Kelly Brook or Kate Winslet when she was in Titanic. I still think that rings true.

It's difficult to put a size on it as like some have said someones height plays a part.

To me curvy is someone with an hourglass figure with boobs and hips.

I think there are a lot of overweight people that put curvy because they feel more comfortable with that than putting large.

I noticed one profile the other day were the person said they were average when i'd say they were at least a size 18 and they weren't tall.

Everyone's perseption of size will be different and some people must have really good mirrors in their house

"To me curvy is slim with shape

If your boobs hang down to your belly, you have a over hang on your stomach and creases in your back your not curvy your fat "

Damn! I'm fat then!

Generally I'd g with the above - curvy is a shape, not a size. It's in-and-out curves - hourglass/ slight pear shaping.

I had someone message me who didn't want to meet anyone over a size 14 and stated this VERY clearly (twice) in his profile. When I pointed out that I'm a 16 and therefore not his type he said I was an exception and that I should take it as a compliment. I think he seemed to think that anyone size 16 or above didn't have any shape except that of a round ball...

I'll stick with curvy, rather than fat - it sounds nicer! - and there's enough pics on show for people to see my shape, anyway.

Now though, although I still work out most days, I don't use the same intensity or regimen, therefore I'm not as hard or defined as I was so now I describe myself as "Curvy".

My sizes are a 14 top, small(ish) waist and a 10/12 bottom.

People change, its just a question of being honest about how you are not how you'd like to be. T

However size 10/12 calling herself curvy is attention seeking asking for compliment. If I was size 12, which I've never been in my life I'd call myself skinny

"

You guys need to open your eyes

"I don't know why there is a need to state your size or shape, surely photos are better than some vague description which, as we can see from this discussion, means different things to different people."

Photo's are the ideal solution....but only if they're up to date!!

Hey sizes are waist sizes eg 10,12,14 etc. Curviness is determined I guess by whats above and below eg nice butt and chest

I'm an 8-10 and would say I'm curvy.

I certainly resent people think smaller girls say it to get compliments.

I'm not skinny, I have bum, hips and boobs.

I presume you have some empirical evidence or study to backup that stunningly poorly thought-out generalization?

The evidance is in the pics of the women who say they're curvy

Bizarre question! What other kind of 'evidence' could they have?

In any case the 'empirical' research we have gathered indicates the same - most on here use 'curvy' for overweight. Despite that, as said by several others, women of a healthy weight can nonetheless be curvy too.

Well, in order for it not be a general sweeping statement designed to illicit a negative reaction, or for it just to have not be seen as sour grapes, I would have expected a published set of results with:

A mean sample of say 100 pictures of 100 different women randomly taken from this site, all of whom list as 'curvy'.

Following that, a random sample of 100 men and 100 women from the site all of whom rated each picture from (1) Not an accurate description of curvy to (10) very accurate description.

One all the information had then been gathered and entered into a spreadsheet, the overall results could be determined based on the mean average score - this would then allow a definitive statement to me made based on a random sample set of data from women describing themselves as Curvy using a random set of opinions.

Furthermore, you could then also factor in age groupings or geographic locations - allowing even further statements to be made with some level of scientific accuracy and not just a subjective generalization.

Curvy is just another word for sexy. My husband finds curvy women very attractive. I would say its not size its about the figure.

They don't have "fat" as an option and if they did I wouldn't choose it! Don't most of us try to find something positive in our appearance when asked to describe ourselves on a site like this? I am fully aware I am overweight (fat) but I also have womanly curves so I'll choose that description thanks very much

Perhaps they could have "voluptuous" -- that's a more pleasant and accurate way to describe the fuller figured lady than "fat" or "large"

How is curvy another word for sexy ?

Another word for curvy when describing a womans body would be shapely or voluptuous..

Your right though curvy is not a size its a shape..

Loads of woman put curvy thinking fat bits are curves..

Guess its easier to put curvy than lardy

I used to have on my profile i was fat, but people would message me telling me not to be so hard on myself and that i wasnt fat, people take fat as negative and if you say your fat its almost like they think your one of these women who have a chip on their shoulder about it, which i dont im just a call a spade a spade type person, so i changed fat to BBW but then you get all the people moaning about that phrase as a lot dont like the idea of fat birds being called beautiful so i changed it to voluptuous which seems to be more acceptable that curvy, as i dont feel i am curvy im fat, and i cant say im fat as it offends people so it seems like the middle ground to me, but as they dont have a option for voluptuous on the drop down i use ample

You'll never please everyone no matter what you put someone will comment on it

I don't get why people are so offended by the word fat to be honest. It is a real word and not a nasty slang word.I think there are far more worse words to describe being over weight.

So many people use words on here then think theres a 1000 definitions for that word to fit them..

I put myself as ample when initially, but someone pointed out I wasn't.. So now I put it as curvy.. I have bit of boobs and bum, but don't really have a waist.. So maybe not very curvy either..

Which is why I just put my dress size and boob size on my profile text..
