London

Am in Durham for 24 hours.

Any local ideas of anything exciting to get me into trouble?

Not much mate, it's a city with two types of people. University rarrs who are absolutely no fun, and absolute no hope chavs, who are slightly more fun but also much more fighty.

If you want a decent night out in the North then Newcastle is a better shout, albeit that's not very useful to you right now.

This, nip on a train. Newcastle is only 10 minutes or the number 21 bus will take about 30 minutes into Newcastle.

Admittedly, as far as bars in Durham go the angel isn't a bad shout if you are somewhat alternative.

But, and it's a big but, the last few times I've been in there it will make you feel very very old and out of touch. All 17 year old girls in tees for bands they have never actually listened to and torn fishnets.

I found a really nice Thai place on Crossgate last time I was there. About five years ago. Big improvement on Stantons chip shop though, 3/4 of the way up Neville Street, when I used to live in Durham 40 years ago. Extensive menu consisting of fish, chips, fish and chips, pie, or pie and chips. Though I suppose you could mix it up a bit and have pie and fish. Or for the larger appetite, fish and pie and chips... Ee, them were the days! We had rickets, but we were happy

Or you could go all out and have fish and more fish with a side dish of fish

The Cathedral is definitely worth a visit! Amazing 11th century architecture!

We enjoyed the pubs when we went earlier this year

I'm not sure they would have had three bits of fish available all at the same time. After thr first two you'd have wait for "when the boats cum in".
