I have heard KIK is very discrete and you don't have to give ur number to add anyone...

I do and yes you create a username and that's all you need to give them. Be careful though as it will link to people in your phone book who have the app and just don't post your name in a thread in the forums. I made that mistake and ended up with 300+ messages mostly coming through at stupid times of the night!!!
