Joking aside, one of the clear defining characteristics of any addiction is when pursuing it has severe adverse real life consequences, but the person keeps on going anyway.

Yep, also looking for high risk sexual activity - by risk meaning possibly illegal or morally questionable - exposing, voyeuristic etc etc
It’s when it takes over your day to day life and you don’t take pleasure in ‘ordinary’ stuff including sex with partner etc.. |

A genuine addiction, you will put before everything. It will be the first thing you think about and the last thing you think about.
You can adore and love sex and want as much as possible without being ‘addicted’.
Addictions can be debilitating, depending on what you are addicted to.
If you just enjoy sex, and want as much as you can get, then I’d say you just enjoy it rather than being addicted.

if you function in your day to day life then your probably just have a high sex drive.
To be addicted to sex you would often put it above other things. For instance I've lost jobs over choosing to have sex rather than go to work. Risking meeting people where and when I shouldn't, not really caring about my own safety..it's cost me relationships....
I've got so carried away I forgot to go get my kids from school ( yes that's when I got help)
It isn't a wonderful thing and it's a big reason I only meet in clubs now. Its part of how I keep it under control |
