I'm pretty sure this is the same pub that was well known for it's Rockabilly nights.

Also, on another note it's sad to see another historical London building be forced to close partly as a result of posh NIMBY neighbours.

Hopefully it can reopen as a better establishment and won't get demolished to make way for a souless new block of "luxury apartments" or another bloody coffee shop!

Damn.

I remember when a good night used to be the Norfolk Village, The Whitehorse, The Spread Eagle then The Axe, then finishing in The Rainbow as it was open really late.

Its a shame to see them all gone.

The beer was warm the dancers were below standard and the bouncers were dressed like priests

I wonder how it all went wrong

An old haunt - would sit and chat with the girls - Cindy, Sabrina - was a great venue - you could do a crawl from Norfolk arms, sports bar, white horse, spread eagle, browns and then Axe - I'm going back 25 years ago now

Was this the place where you put money in the cup for the dancers?

"Was this the place where you put money in the cup for the dancers? "

Yeah, it was one of the Shorditch High Street Strip pubs.

Going back about 20 years the format was no stage - so the girls just paraded up and down the floor in front of the bar while doing heir "dances". If you were a regular and known to be "safe" - ie non grabby - this could be very interesting, Its not the first time I was effectively used as a pole - ok so no acrobatics lol - but a VERY close dance because the girl knew my hands would stay by my sides.

I used to work shifts meaning I would be off during the week, and if I fancied a drink in the afternoon before meeting my missus after work, I could go and watch some pretty girls or sit in some other pub on my own, funnily how the strip pubs won...

Even the hipsters have been priced out these days! They've mostly migrated South of the River!!

London/ South West (Devon, Somerset).

All happy memories! Does anyone know if the Nags Head At Aldgate is still going?

I always preferred the strip pubs to the strip clubs.

The Gryphon up by Greys Inn Road is still in operation as far as I know

The only one I have visited when in London was Horns. Is that still there. I am down again in early April so may have a trip to that area.

Mr Google shows it as open and owned by the same people as Browns, calling it a Sister club.
