I'd say around two-thirds of my encounters have been bareback, and I've exclusively played that way for quite some years now - although prior to that I would use condoms 'on request', I wasn't asked to particularly often... 
....I've never regretted it, having never caught anything or had any 'scares' - and, as far as I'm aware, there have never been any other unintended consequences... |

I look back on the amount of times I played bareback when I was younger and cringe, amazed I never caught anything! This was a long time ago, always play safe now. I think as you get older you become more aware of the risks and plus I don't have time to deal with catching anything now I've a real job haha |

But to answer the question. I have played bare and bagged up over my years. Usually there is no mention of condoms. I never object to their use though. I look after my sexual health, get tested as required (after a new bareback partner for example, and just now and then anyway), I accept the risks and dont let the worry get in the way. There is no such think as 100% safe sex. I have had condom breakages, condoms slip off inside the girl, and I have never ever been asked to bag up for a BJ or use a dental dam so its a bit moot really. There comes a point where you may as well just not gave sex if you are going to be that worried. Catching the flu, or a vomiting bug, colds, are all things that could also easily happen. Why the focus specifically on diseases that are only transmitted sexually?
I have never caught anything, and for me the calculated risk of catching something, sexual or not, is worth the enjoyment. |

The other examples of illness that you use tend to be minor, self-limiting and have symptoms that provide a heads-up that you have an infection.
STIs are often insidious and the symptoms transient or minor, but infections can result in permanent health consequences e.g. infertility, cervical and head & neck cancer etc.
I've worked in,and run, genitourinary clinics and they tend to be attended by individuals who know exactly what they were doing but failed to understand risk or biology.
FS threads are often interesting but I'm struggling to remember one that ran along the lines of 'I got gonorrhoea at a party/on a date/at a meet'. I guess that those people are self selecting? |

My point is so many other things in life can also result in similar lifelong issues. Yet theres a taboo around sexual health that can only serve to make the issues worse. No one will say "Cant play, got a dose of chlamydia" but will say "cant play caught the flu". |

I’ve played bare from here once but got lucky.
It’s really risky anywhere and have caught STI’s from some regulars.
Oral is no safer really and I’m not sure if there’s any that you can catch after touching each other’s genitals. So condoms probably won’t protect you 100% but lessen the risk.
I can’t really feel anything with a condom on unless I’ve been starved or she’s got good pelvic floor muscles. But I love making and watching women cum regardless. If she can give a good wank to empty my load is a bonus. |

You totally misunderstood my point. Noticing an increase in people openly admitting they prefer bare play is more likely that they did before but were quiet about it, but are now more open about the preference they had already rather than a shift in preference. Plus, like I say, the number of people who claim to never play bare publicly to avoid judgement but act rather differently behind closed doors I suspect is quite high. |

100% this. Herpes isn’t detectable in standard STI checks. It can be contracted from non penetrative play too. Given it’s very common, if you have cold sores, you have herpes. You may not even know you have it. Protection lessens the risk but there’s no cure. I |

Though i have had people ask for meets want condoms for oral but I declined the meet as not for me ..

Always wondered if those that play bareback who regular have STI tests, are actually safer than those who practice safe sex but are lulled into a false sense of security by doing so, and don’t test?
Makes one wonder is it then safer playing bareback with someone who regularly tests, in comparison to playing with someone who practices safe but doesn’t regularly test?
So then should everyone just be consistently doing STI tests, and do those that practice safe sex do so, and ask to see the test results of anyone they play with? |

For myself, in private socials and some club meets I ask the question. Anyone who seems to be lying, like doesn't know the process etc, I will not play with unless they show me proof. I've had people show me their messages or emails but you can't always guarantee what has been tested for.
But I also test regularly myself, even though I'm safe for oral with men and women (condoms and dental dams). I test every ~6 weeks vaginally and ~12 weeks orally just to be sure.
I'd hate to pass something on to someone else because of my lifestyle choices.
I think it should be a responsible thing for anyone however they play to be testing, but I do know a lot of people don't, so I just try to mitigate the risks as much as I can personally. |
