Needed to lose weight and get general fitness back up.

Am 8 weeks in and so far 7kg down and 10cm off waist and hips.

At the moment I have been using Combat Fuel for my protein shakes. Far too many flavours to choose from though!

Haven't been in a few years but thinking of re-joining. Originally started because I falsely believed my value as a man was tied to how physically fit and attractive I was. Then I stayed for the body dysmorphia and depression.

Used to take creatine and tried some preworkouts but didn't like them. My protein for shakes.

Previously at 75-80kg body weight I was doing

95kg bench

160kg deadlift

140kg squat

My goal was a 180 deadlift and got a despondent when I didn't reach it.

Now I'm just looking to stay in shape and keep a nice butt which I think is a much healthier approach than I had before.

I'd be afraid to go back to the gym now with all the videos being posted on tiktok. Fellas would want to go blindfolded at this stage incase they look in the wrong direction

That’s good going, keep at it and stay motivated, once you’re 6 months in you’ll feel guilty for not going or going off track with the diet. Becomes a habit.

My protean have very nice flavours of powder also

Absolutley agree, men with low self esteem or people that don’t fit the general gym lad stereotype will feel a certain type of way in a gym environment, but most of the time people are there to be supportive, if someone came up to me and Asked to spot their form I’d happily do it. I started in 2009. I’m down from my all time pbs but last night I was pulling 100kg for sets of 5. I probably peaked at 39/40.

I can bench 52.5 touch & go. My squat is terrible.

Favourite day is always upper body. Right now I’m focusing on lats & shoulders for a wider & more masc physique.

Don’t do hip thrusts.

I'm a woman. I don't hip thrust. I bench (incline) around 42-45kg for reps.

Lat pull downs (around 40-50kg)

Shoulder press with free weights (12-14kg)

I use my wheelchair to tow a prowler behind and have had up to 120kg on the prowler.

I gym because I need and want good upper body strength to get around in my wheelchair, to play wheelchair basketball and to get around 5k in around 30mins.

I started back in June when I was 99kg.

Not looking at how much I can lift, it's more about conditioning and weight loss for me at 57 years old.

I'm down to 93.5kg at the moment, a lot fitter and my visceral fat is a lot lower, just 4% to lose to get within normal. I even have some muscles now lol.

I was very conscious of myself at first bit can now work out pretty much ignoring everyone else.

I learned one of the most important life lessons from gym bros.

Don't judge anyone because you have no idea why they're there or how far they come already.

Never had any issue in any of the gyms I've gone to. Everyone is just doing their own thing.

I'm in 2 or 3 times a week, fewer visits than my longer term trend. My ideal is some classes plus weights and cardio. Not to mention, enjoying the company of great people. I respect everyone there, their ambition and dedication, however they look, etc. I mix myprotein and H&B protein shakes, typically chocolate . Not a fan of pre-workout mixes, which ought to be essential amino acids but I dislike the non-chocolate flavours . Also, love yoga. We should have Fab naked yoga classes, as I raised in a forum post a few months ago.

I’ve always loved going to the gym and have been pretty consistent all my adult life (until the rona screwed it all up!)

I go because I enjoy it, progress (strength/size gains) is slow and takes hard work but I like it. There are also the obvious health benefits and the fact that I like the way I look from gyming too.

My PB for bench is 135kg, so close to my goal of 140!!

Supplement wise I use whey and creatine, but eat a lot too!!

The wife has also started to get back into it and we go to the gym together when we can. I will be on hand to spot her from behind when she’s doing squats for her own safety of course!

Weight loss is trailimg off now but I shouldn't really lose much more, just really need to tone up and find those core muscles again!

I have been going frequently for the last 20yrs. I moved to London after getting a job and started going after work. Still do the same!

It complements my running and cycling and helps keep the body strong.

Most people in my cycling and running clubs don't do gym and whilst they are fit, they certainly don't look it.

I find it very odd, that it takes not much time or effort and people would rather veg on a sofa but that's just me, everyone is different!

Looking forward to getting back in the gym now winter approaches. I don't do much lifting of weights though. Mostly I swing around on the bars and the rings.

Which is why we joined fabswingers...

I started lifting in my early teenage years with household objects / anything I could find. Then I got a weight set when I was 14 and just carried it on from there. I was inspired by action films and bodybuilders from the 70s and collected old bodybuilding magazines.

Only really got seriously into it the last 5 years with a better diet and a proper routine. Prior to that I was just lifting weights willy nilly really.

Strength PRs aren’t my main focus right now, I focus on the mind muscle connection, squeezing and feeling the muscle worked.

I don’t use protein powders or any other supplements currently, but I have done and advocate them depending on goals.

My favourite supplement would be essential amino acids, understanding the timing of when to take them, I have had great results.

I started going to the gym because I wasn't comfortable being a fat knacker I did a little bit of this and that and a couple of classes.

Then I lost weight and got into fitness and nutrition. Discovered running and the benefits of cross training in the gym. Current favourite toys are the TRX rig, battle ropes and sleigh.

Favourite protein is The Protein Works French vanilla. Like a desperate person at closing time in a nightclub, it goes with anything . Just discovered TPW loaded legend squares.... You can thank me later

Joined a local gym last winter in an effort to lose some weight. Was doing mostly cardio, but mixed up with some of the weight machines too.

Unfortunately it tailed off over the summer, and I took a big step back with my weight. As I wasn’t doing enough of anything else.

Just started going back recently, so I’m trying to get back into it, and get my fitness back up. I’m not using any supplements, just trying to eat better for now.

Here and there

Well, I'm a competitive bodybuilder who's competed nationally in the UK and my country of origin. Not as massive as I used to be, but still compete at a decent 16 plus stone. Off season weight always between 17 - 18 stone. Not a gym bro though. I just lift heavy stuff in my tattered clothes and make lots of noises. Supplements are over rated. I take EAA's, EVA'S, MCT Oil and Whey. No need for anything else. I don't really chat about gym as I train to compete and not really to look good for people. Most people think it looks gross anyway

I do it for general health now I have done the extreme ends of workouts be it running riding or bodybuilding. But I found that my best times was when I had fun just doing it. Variety is key for me as I have noticed over using certain muscles have caused imbalances and posture issues.

I have been a qualified personal trainer - not online gym instructor rubbish but 15 weeks in a classroom and gym. If anyone wants any advice fire away.

P. S ladies please don’t hip thrust there is a reason most hip thrust more than they squat !

Fave supplement, anything let’s go xx"

Started because I grew up loving Arnold. Then my dad took me to a bodybuilding show to watch his PT compete many years ago, I went on to train at his gym. A proper saw dust on the floors, hardcore gym. I keep going because I love it, it's brought so many positives to my life, beyond the gym too.

Ive benched 160kg for a single rep but I don't barbell bench press anymore, I'm not as strong as I was 5 years ago and I'm all about lifting smart nowadays.

I've gone back to exercise after having 6 months off from doing anything. I'm going to a PT twice a week, fitness classes and the gym. Been having 1 rest day a week.

I'm really chuffed with my progress as I've lost 9lb in a month and am feeling much fitter and I'm toning up.

Started training around 2 years ago, I used to train 9 times a week, 5 bootcamps and 4 mornings at the gym, was to lose weight, and get fitter but the benefits I felt mentally outweighed it all. I have zero upper body strength can do about 45kg on lat pull down, free weights usually 12kg depending on exercise, but can leg press 200kg, deadlift 80kg, i hate squatting with a passion, hack squat is my nemesis, would rather do Bulgarian split squats and they are a sickener haha. Lost a bit of progress last 6 months because I changed jobs but going to get back to it once I establish a better routine

You cant out train a good diet, calorie deficit is what you need to be doing, download my fitness pal and track your food, to lose weight its all about what you eat

Only way you’ll lose car is in a calorie deficit, eat less calories than you simply burn during the day, make sure to eat enough protean, minimise if not eliminate your sugar intake. Want to eat more? Train more, run, swim, anything, year around 2000 calories a day and you’ll be sweet

We started before covid, I joined because we was doing a work park run and I wanted to use the treadmill, she joined to come with me.

I don’t bench press and we don’t normally take supplements. During the hot sweaty months I used hydration tablets in my water, now it’s cooled down again, I don’t sweat no where near as much, so don’t bother.

You can add a little salt in your water instead of hydration tablets.

My favourite energy drink is fizzy water, salt, syrup and a dash of lemon or lime.

Started to exercise and lose weight before COVID with treadmill, some weights, planks and other stuff. When COVID hit started working out at home. Hated it initially now love it and can't think of any reason to go to a gym. I can exercise on my time, heck can even exercise naked (not really a lot of fun TBH unless someone's watching hehehe!!)

Been going the gym a few years now mainly to lose weight. Was a big guy and have lost 7st and kept it off. Love mainly cardio and resistance weights and usually do an hours workout every other day. Trying to get my 5k time to under 24 mins but just 8 secs short last night, lol.

I’ve been going to the gym on and off for about the past 20 years, no more than 12 months at a time. After healing 2 bad fractures in my foot last year - taking 6 months to heal, I decided to seriously get back into fitness. Not only to lose any weight I gained, but to maintain my physical health and mental well being, now that I’m approaching (or already in) the menopause.

I do a mixture of cardio (cycling to work and home rower machine), strength training with free weights (PPL split) and yoga for flexibility and balance at home and when the work’s gym was opened.

We exercise at gym for same reasons (apart from the naked but because our son would complain).

I do like going to the actual gym just for a couple of months in the winter though to have fun with different equipment etc. And the showers are free

Wow, I’m really loving this thread, it’s so inspiring!

I had weight problems when i was younger & had poor body confidence & self esteem issues, not so much now as I’m really living for the gym more than ever now!
