I saw a forum post earlier which said the following
MMF, 3some guys playing with each other as well as the woman
MFM, 3some and both guys just playing with the woman.
Is that true, because I've been on fab since 2010 and I've never heard that. |

For some it's a free-for-all.
But some people do arrange the letters when arranging meets to indicate who is the desired 'middle'. Some will be straight guys only and only mfm is an option. Others will involve bi guys and they may not have boundaries of who is in the middle as such. |

Must admit despite being in the scene as it were for over twenty years I only recently realised there was a difference - had been blithely using MMF without knowing I was saying I'd been in bi situations. Hopefully didn't mislead anyone |

"Technically yes. But it’s quite pedantic to make people use them properly like that. "
No one is writing a rule book.
Some find it helpful to illustrate their wishes or likes |

We're the ones who said this, happy to stand on the hill!
And I did admit it was probably overly pedantic.
"
We didn't make anyone use it, and we don't. It really is a technicality but it was 'unwritten rules' advice a couple were asking for. |

Wherever I lay my hat |
I only found this out about a year ago but use MMF when writing because 1) it's quicker to type 2) that's what comes up on my predictive text from my I'll informed days (got to be a bit careful when messaging friends n family) and 3) if it ends up being a MMF rather than a MFM then that is a Brucey Bonus. |

I thought mfm and mmf were the same ?

It's a fairly new thing, not universally known. I get how it can be a useful distinction, but it's not strictly true that one configuration of the letters "means" on specific type of play.
After all, few people distinguish between FFM and FMF. |

So what's MMMF then? Two gay guys, a bisexual guy and a woman?
Not something we've ever gave much thought over...if you're organising something you'd be making it clear from the outset what you want |

I have been swinging for about 10 years and have always the following
MMF 2 bi men and 1 female
MFM 2 straight men and 1 female
FFM 2 bi females and 1 male
FMF 2 straight females and 1 male
Group fun to be a mix of more than 4
Gangbang 1 female/male and more than 6 |

It's probably as reliable as a pineapple or a woman wearing an anklet. I'd say that if you're relying on the ordering of 3 letters in an abbreviation to determine the rules of play, you're severely under communicating! |

If you have an MMF, can the first M interact with the F? And if the F walks round the bed to pick something up, does it become an FMM?
The problem with these apparently more precise abbreviations is that unless everyone is aware and agrees on the Letters, you might assume they know e.g. no Bi play, but they know nothing of the sort.
Much more helpful to say Bi MMF or Straight MMF, IMO. |

First M is straight. First F is bi. 2nd F is bi-curious. Second M is straight, but doesn't object to a pegging.

So the FF may or may not play depending on how bi the second F is? Also second M is actually bi curious but is telling fibs? |

Apparently. But I just type any and it means the same thing to me. Some have ‘rules’ and know all the lingo. |

That's garbage. Any nomenclature that breaks down if you add just one more M clearly isn't correct. How would you write a totally straight MMMF? It is what's agreed between the three (or more) that's important, not the order of the letters. |

I’ve only recently noticed people using these variations with specific meanings. I get it, I think it kinda makes sense, but I think it’s a relatively recent trend.
And yeah, much better to just talk openly about what you all want than to rely on everyone knowing the ‘code’. |

We love a bit of three way never understood this lettering business. We are not into bi guys, they simply turn us both off. We simply delete those guys requests, they cant of read our profile. So indicate they are lazy as well as wrong for us both. |

There seems to be some misunderstanding about some advice I gave. So to hopefully clear it up a but, because the last thing I want to do is muddy waters. Here's what I said.
"This maaaaaay be overly pedantic, but hopefully helpful? MMF implies the guys will be playing together, MFM implies no guy on guy. Its not so much unspoken, but definitely a distinction we didn't know about when we first had our threesome."
From what I've seen in this thread is that there seems to be a consensus that relying on a couple of letters to show what you're looking for is a mistake. Agreed!
Ironically in trying to be clear about being clear about what you're looking for... I did infact not make it clearer. So apologies, but there's been some good stuff come out of it. Sorry not sorry? - D. |

We thought your original post was nice and clear. It gave helpful information to the OP who had started that particular thread.
It’s also the way we’ve always understood the difference between MMF & MFM. |
