"I prefer to stay at home, glue my feet to the carpet and invite a passing dr*nk in to chat up my Mrs whilst offering to fight me.
I think they call that "Thursday" at t'Spoons."
When I think about it it sounds like a couple of clubs we’ve been to. |

"Not for years and never will again. Would probably block anyone that suggested a social in one!"
We've attended a great swingers social in one.
Can't get names of everyone who attended but feel free to block us. |

"God no. Awful owner, staff treated really badly
Exactly. He'll never see a penny of my cash in his pocket.
Mr
Same. Tim Martin is a awful, would always avoid giving him money."
Think Wetherspoons have done a fantastic job on some of their renovations, taking derelict old building and turning them into places that are winning awards for building work.
We are not regular users but half the time if we nip into a pub we would not be aware or even care who owns it, not that bothered.

Worked as Door Steward in one for 2 years
During my day job I went to a meeting in Swindon which was something I did quite often
Agreed one night to meet with one of the girls from that office and her pal
Yes they chose ‘Spoons
I remember a fight broke out and I complained to my company that living and working in Glasgow I wasn’t used to this sort of behaviour
Nice MFF I’m my hotel room later if memory serves me right

Would rather get my info first hand if possible, may do that next time in in one can you just see it.
Hi, I was chatting to someone on a swingers site and he said the organisation treat you badly, any comment madam.
If I worked in any place that treated me badly I use them for experience and while taking their pay would take my time looking for somewhere that did treat me fairly. |

Was it the Savoy, the old cinema? It's must be the only pub we've been in that used to be a cinema! Nice to see old buildings used instead of being derelict |

You're very unlikely to spontaneously meet someone who works at 'spoons who has a well researched set of data to hand that will illustrate Tim Martin's treatment of his staff on an on going and national level.

Staff at my local have been there for years. Wetherspoons employ a fair few students and you do not have to have any experience to work there. You are trained on he job.
Hamilton Hall, the Cross keys and the coronet are beautiful buildings that host Wetherspoons.
You can buy a cup of tea or coffee and refill it all day long. Wetherspoons staff never question you if you pop in to use the loo. It is a social space for lots of older, single or widowed men. And free WIFI that let's you view fab. |

I'll use one in an emergency. As somebody else said you can refill your coffee cup as often as you like and that can't be bad.You can also keep sending the food back as often you like and it might eventually come back hot!

Oh dear, you're so right, the chances of meeting someone with a pile of well researched data on them will be a tad problematic, unless I met someone like you, but you'd have to go out and meet people and for any meeting to last longer than it takes to rifle through your "research" before boredom sets in.

Haven't read all the previous comments but wetherspoons is a cracking place to have a drink. The business model has saved hundreds of old iconic buildings from demolition, sympathetically renovated into a pub and why wouldn't you. Many hundreds of other businesses have tried to emulate what spoons do and why do you think that is ??
I have 2 close friends who are managers for spoons and they get drafted in to sort out pubs in the company nationwide that are not quite doing so well. Don't believe all you read in the papers.. they certainly fire those that cause problems and that's how they get these pubs back on their feet. The staff are then happier from what I've witnessed. Fired ex staff are always disgruntled.

What's comical about suggesting that real information taking in the full picture is more reliable than anecdotal evidence?
Anyway, seeing as you appear unable or unwilling to have a conversation without personal insults. I'll leave you to it. |

Because you honestly think I would go up to a member of staff and say I was chatting to someone on a swingers site etc, it's your response to that. In your wildest dreams do you honestly believe someone would take that approach.
You make us howl with laughter.

Plenty of Weathespoons have closed too.
And besides, a business being successful commercially doesn't mean the staff are treated well.

When you completed your in depth research did you find anyone employed by Wetherspoons who was contented and happy or do all staff resent working for them and grossly unhappy.
I tend not to research pubs, shops, cafés, holiday resorts to see if their treatment of staff is up to scratch, haven't the time or inclination.
Do you think it's the same for any business who's boss becomes a well known, God forbid, rich too, bit like Ryanair etc.
We all love to hate em and will never, ever, ever use their product or service again.
Well, unless I fancy a cheap pint in a nice, warm pub or a flight to warm climes cheaper than a taxi to the airport.
Or is it a case of pure envy and wishing you too could be rich, successful, well known and have lots of ladies wanting to bounce on your bones without even trying.
Just a thought. |

Tim Martin is a total twat but money talks. At our pre football match local a pint and a large set me back £9.50. At my Spoons using my CAMRA tokens I can get two decent pints for under £4. I don't like doing it but my drinking buddy is an impoverished pensioner so it makes sense.
I'm often in the George in Croydon if anyone wants to say hello and am at the Jack Fairman in Horley on Thursday afternoons. |

Alicante, Spain. (Sometimes in Wales) |
When they first started, I liked them.
Using old banks or similar, rather than wasting old buildings.
Good beer at a cheap price because it was close to it's use by date.
No big screens or loud bandits.
Reasonable food at reasonable prices.
They were just like an old fashioned "old man pub" which I liked.
But a lot have morphed into something else. Big screen sports, rarely cleaned tables, poor quality food and mid morning clientele that I'd rather avoid.
On top of that, LOTS of comments in various press from disgruntled staff* and Tim's horrendous Brexit stance.
I will still use them, but they are no longer a top choice, more a needs must scenario.
Luckily the closest to me now is well over a thousand miles away.

I was in the Bexhill one once. Much nicer than the Hastings one. I was at the bar waiting to be served and dropped my tenner the man standing next to me said to me, my wife’s knickers drop to the floor quicker than that.
I smiled and he pointed her out sitting at the table. I went and sat down with my drink and could see them chatting and looking in my direction. The lady flashed her knickers and smiled.
Two hours later her knickers fell to the floor in my front room. We had a few hours of fun the three of us. Apparently they do come on here every now and again so if you see this and would like to flash me again and see where it goes send me a DM.
Did say it was classier than the Hastings one lol. |

I do not go very often these days but bringing up 3 kids thought it was perfect place for families. Still great value food and drink and some better than others. Chesterfield one is nice with a hotel onsite and Peak District on your doorstep - perfect for a low priced fab meet !
Am not really interested in the owner or his views, I think it’s trendy for snobbish liberal people to critique him while buying all sorts of products from supply chains with much bigger global problems. The food isn’t great but it isn’t that bad either. No worse than Greene King & many supermarkets , the same factories are used. |

No. The media spend huge amounts of money on payments & social media to get stories from them. There are much much worse employers , follow the UK tribunals cases for the facts, not the made up news stories |

Im usually choosing spoons when im on my own purely because of the app ordering. Saves me loosing my table when i go bar. .. although im usually braless with a strappy top i have yet to experiance the old anonymous drink through app being sent to me... guess im not grubby enough for the clientele! Lol! |

To be honest.
I go there regularly due to the fact a relative takes me there. I am skint so if he treats me, I go.
Its cheap and cheerful. The one near me is reasonably clean and has nice staff.
IF I could, I would go to another pub as I do not like the brexiteer c you next tuesday owner. But such is life!
and YES in the past, I have met swingers there |
